So my C: drive crashed and I had to reinstall Premiere Pro 2.0

I have all my video projects and files on a seperate hard drive V:.

The project i was working on had about 100-125 imported video files from various trips and whatnot.

Now when i open the project back up it asks "where is video file xxxxx.avi"
I can either find the file, skip the file, or cancel.

Now i have not moved any of the files from their original location, and i can manually pick each file one by one, except some files have the same names, just in different folders. So obviously this wont really work since i might end up picking the wrong files for their location in the timeline.

I was wondering if there is any workaround in trying to get premiere to seeing the files in the right location without having to manually select each file.

Thanks in advance!

the reason for this may be that when you reinstalled the operating system, for some reason, the labelling of the other drives changed (d:, e:, etc..). are you sure they still have the same names they had before reinstalling?

also, my suggestion is to keep a copy of the original project file before starting messing with it.

...thanks for your idea, but that was one of the first things i thought of to...

everything has stayed the same, other than a new installation of windows & premiere.

i can't really think of anything else.
does the error message tell you where the program is looking for the files? that may help fixing things up.
if it doesnt, i wonder if it's possible to open the prj file with a txt editor and possibly read the file locations. understanding where it's looking for files may be a big hint towards the solution of the prob.

it's weird anyway.

ok actually i tried opening a prj file with ultraedit and it's very readable!
in facts it's all XML.

in particular, the files are under the tag <FilePath>..

maybe you could put all the files under the folder it's looking for them, or change all the file paths with a replace all string (much more risky)..

anything you try, make backups in advance!!!

ill open up the file today when i get home from work. Is ultraedit like notepad or something?

thanks for the help!

yes its a professional text editor.
you can even use notepad, but take into account that if you modify the file with notepad it may apply some unwanted changes which may make the file unusable. always backup before changes.

Well i tooled around with ultraedit for a bit.

Thanks for that.

I uninstalled premiere & plugins. Reinstalled it, and reinstalled all my plugins

Opened up the project, and it found all the files!

I guess a reinstall fixed it? Odd, im not really sure what happened...but im happy!

thanks for the help!

boh. i'm even more clueless...
maybe the program got scared that you learned how to master ultraedit and it decided to behave properly! :)

anyway, good that it works now!!
