anyone using Kontakt 2? I've been thinking about buying it for a while, but it seems like there are still a lot of bugs/stability issues... any alternate players?

Kontakt 2 is fairly buggy. Their next revision should be ok. I'd use the original Kontakt. It's still better than Gigacrap.
It depends what you need to do. Do you need to run the midi scripts K2 can do, or do you just have basic good sampler needs?
Im just looking for pretty basic, key mapping, and able to import at least .wavs...
I have EastWest Symphonic Orchestra, which usues a version of Kontakt, so thats the only reason im looking at kontakt. I also have Sampletank LE, but Im not a fan of the interface and you cant import wavs, because its the free w/ protools version... maybe I should look for an upgrade price..

I'd go with Kontakt 1.5+ or whatever. It's very powerful and should be fairly cheap these days. You could always upgrade to K2 later.
