So I got the Virtual Dub file, as well as the Deshaker plug-in to smooth out some rough footage ... problem is that when I SAVE to an AVI, etc. it's showing all the information that's on the preview window as well.
In otherwords, my AVI file has all these little arrows pointing around as it's zooming, panning, etc. as it smoothes the footage out ... it's also considerably darker than the original footage.
Any tips on what I can do? There appears to be very little help/information that comes with the software.

I followed a bunch of links that wound me up at the Sundance Media site with instructions. Don't ask me to figure out how I got there....
Oh, hell. Hold on...

That should clear things up. :)

You're the man, Dan, thanks! That link explained everything, and the footage looks smoother now ... great plug in!

Hmmm, I spoke too soon. The footage no longer has all the arrows on it, etc., but the Deshaker was fighting the crane shot movement ... so instead of a smooth crane shot, it's now choking as it tries to stop the movement, then forces on, etc.
I'm assuming it's a slightly similar result to if you had the OIS activated on the DVX during a tripod pan.

Ayup. It's really only good for real shakiness on a handheld, static shot.
It really didn't like it when I deshook a train passing by. :)

Norm-
If you get the plug-in to work acceptably, how about a before and after?

Oh I would ... but I couldn't do it for quite a while, as it's for our Hero Fest short & it would go against the whole "no-promotion" rule. That said, I've got some consumer hand held stuff that I'll be trying it on for sure, and will post it when I get that done ... but again probably won't be for nearly a month.

Cool. I'll look forward to seeing it. And, if I remember right, I owe you some Kessler Crane footage? I have my thesis defense Tuesday. If all goes well (please God let me get on with my life), I will have MUCH more time to do the things I want to do and wont be stuck doing things I have to do. So, I'll get some test footage up ASAP!

Ah yes, the might Kessler. One of the MUST BUYS on my list of toys to get sooner than later.
