I'm trying to write back to the P2 card the P2 contents archived while on location back to the P2 card in the camera so I can take the footage out to show a client on their HD monitor via the HVX's component out.
However I get a message that says that the cards can not be modified. I noitice the P2 card is set for read only on my mac. What is it that I'm doing wrong?

So you have the REC PROTECT tab on the card is in the position that allows you to write to it.

Hi Shane!
I never touched the tab. It's in the same postion that it was when I used it to record in the HVX200 on location..

Hi, Guys
I believe the P2 cards are hard-wired so they cannot be written to other than by the camera. This is to save your skin in case you do something dumb from the computer side. I suggest if you want to show stuff from the card that you dub content from the P2 card onto MiniDV tape before archiving and clearing the P2 card. For the stuff you've taken off the P2 card, if you have a DVU you can dub into the HVX using 1394 - p.87 of the English manual.

No, it's a Mac thing. You can easily write to, erase from, rename etc. on the PC. You can do so on the Mac too, but you have to do something about a "force delete" or some other Mac OSX thing.

Hmmm...I've done it successfully several times. No forcing of nothing. Renamed the card, copied footage from my archives so that I had something for NAB to show off.
No problems.
Try reformatting it in the camera and then see if you can.

I've read reports on the Cow about having to force-delete clips, etc. Haven't tried it on the Mac, so I definitely defer to Shane and other FCP experts to clarify this.

Michael,
How are you trying to write back to the card just by dragging the Content "folder back to the P2 or what? If so MAC "locks the contents folder so you will have to unlock it first. Right click or CTRL+click to context properties on the folder and then unclick the lock feature. Thats what I had to do on mine...but I'm a little unsure if your trying to write QT files or the original P2 card COntents folder back to the card, so the workflow may be slightly different.
