My film crew and I have stumbled upon some serious problems regarding the workflow in AVID xpress HD.

We have shot an ambitous short movie with the HVX 200 here in California and the deadline is moving closer fast.

We edit in Avid xpress Pro HD v.5.2.2 and wish to export uncompressed files to After Effects for further post work. Avid has an avi. export limit of 2 gig and we don't seem to be able to export QT ref files, nonetheless convert them to avi files using a third party conversion.

My questions are

1. what exact setting should we use when exporting QT refs?
2. why are the QT ref files we export totally white?
3. were can we find a stable QT to AVI converter,(we have googled it and theres just to much "junk" some software names would be great )?.
4. just some general info about your own workflow if you was to use Avid and after effects? ( we try to preserve the quality by exporting uncompressed but is there maybe another way to go about and still end up with some beautiful images?

Thanks and take care

I haven't tried AE yet, but I'm able to export Qt-refs out of Avid nicely, and open them in Premiere and Combustion. Qt-ref should work. Check your Qt-ref export settings in Avid. I'm not in front of my Avid box at the moment, so I can't check the details. Also, check RGB/ITU-601 setting or your colors will be off( this bugged me for a while).

Best worklow to seems qt-ref export. This way you use the original quality( DvcProHD) in AE. Then render to uncompressed out of AE.

Update... Check following settings in Qt-ref export:
- "Export As": set to "Quicktime reference"
- "Use Marks" & "Use enabled tracks": switched OFF
- "Use Avid DV Codec": switched ON
- Color Levels: "601/709"
