Is there any advantage of editing a 24p acquisition in a 24p timeline if the output is going to be NTSC?

Well if you are working with 23.98 footage then you should work in a 23.98 time line. if you are woking with 29.97 footage then work in a "NTSC" timeline. Going to TV has nothing really to do with it. What ever you decide to output to will put a pulldown on it and the 23.98 footage will play fine on NTSC.

This may sound ignorant, but,
why?
What are the technical constraints?

The biggest advantage is if you plan on outputting to DVD. DVDs can be authored at 24p, so they'll play back without pulldown on a progressive display, and they take up less space (so you can use either milder compression, or fit more footage in the same amount of space).

Okay. Thanks again for your insight.
