Hi, i need help quickly
have read through the whole of disjecta's Procedure for uprezzing 4x3 letterbox to 16x9 (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=6843) - great thread but don't think it helps my problem.
I have 4x3 INTERLACED footage which needs to be edited for viewing on a 16x9 42inch plasma screen in a museum. (Filmed it all before I got my dvx.)
i'm getting that disjecta's technique with Photozoom Pro works for progressive footage but does anyone know how i can achieve decent results uprezzing to 16x9 with interlaced? it's pal footage using pp 1.5. Also it's going to be played off a flash card in mpeg2 but not off a dvd.
One solution may be to convert the footage to progressive using magic bullet then following disjecta's advice but is that true progressive, wouldn't i lose even more resolution?
Can anyone help me, got to start edit tomorrow?
Many thanks

if the footage is letterboxed i'd say stretch it. change the height to 125% that way when played on a widescreen monitor. the letterbox bars are gone and the footage plays widescreen.

thanks novelt for your response
i think the best way is to stretch the footage - in photozoom pro it seems to do a better job than in premiere, but definitely more time consuming.
in order to edit the 4x3 footage it seems to make sense to letterbox it first so that i know what will be in the frame when i stretch it.
i see 2 ways of doing this - either using the clip effect or by running a title screen with black bars top & bottom over my edit. for ease of not having to adjust every bit of footage, using the title screen seems the easiest way.
does anyone know the actual amounts i should use to create this letterbox for pal footage? by this i mean the x & y position of the top & bottom black bars?
from this i will then stretch the height of the footage - from my calculations this would have to be 133% (rather than 125%), bearing in mind that disjecta stated for pal footage change the height from 576 to 768 (pixel ratio changes from 4x3 pal (1.067) to 16x9 pal (1.422) )
all sounds very complicated but i think i've got my maths right - if not could somebody tell me where i'm going wrong?
As a side note, the footage looked much better using photozoom pro when i changed my interlaced footage into progressive using magic bullet first - otherwise the interlacing became very apparent. this was looking at the footage on a 4x3 interlaced tv though, will see how it looks on plasma widescreen (which doesnt use interlace) on monday
thankyou
