I currently use Vegas and am considering buying an HVX but am concerned about being able to edit DVCPRO50 and DVCPROHD
Which NLEs are you PC guys using... or are you all Mac users?

I bought Broadcast. But I have used it more for capturing than editing. But Canopus Broadcast is your best bet on PC, as it supports everything the HVX can do, an is blazing fast.

We use Avid Media Composer Adrenaline HD..... but that's probably out of your budget, 30k plus.

You can use Raylight to edit DVCPRO50 and DVCPROHD in Vegas.
See for example http://dvfilm.com/raylight/raylightTutorial3.htm
shows DVCPROHD footage in Vegas
and go here to download the free version http://dvfilm.com/raylight

I think about going canopus broadcast
i like the trial very much, great performance,
native p2, no extra files, like raylight or fcp!

You are not kidding, I have Premiere and Vegas which is the only kind of money I can spend as an amateur!

Avid XpressPro HD is the ticket. You don't need to capture or transcode anything, just copy the files and you're good to go.

yep..... very true.... Does it support 1080/24P? I know to get a tape at 1080/24P you have to digitize through Media Composer first and then import it into Express Pro HD. I guess it would since it's already in a digital state.

If you already use Premiere and Vegas, definitely get Raylight.
But for P2 integration, nothing compares to EDIUS Broadcast. It may not be as powerful an editor as some of the others, but they absolutely rock when it comes to working with HVX files. Every (US) format is supported natively (including 1080/24p, 1080/24pA, and 1080/30p, things that even Avid doesn't support yet), you don't have to copy or convert files, the metadata is preserved throughout the editing process, and you can even author MXF files right back to the card for playback in an HVX. Avid and Apple could both stand to go to Canopus School to learn how tapeless should be done!

Actually, Avid just went standalone with Media Composer software... so you don't need Adrenaline... and they added Mojo to the available BO boxes you can use with Media Composer. Standalone Media Composer does support 1080/24P capture.
Avid DNxHD encoding (10-bit and 8-bit 4:2:2) maintains full resolution (no sub-sampling), raster mode, frame rate, and aspect ratio
Support for 1080i at 59.94, 50 fps; 1080p at 25, 24, 23.976 fps; 720p at 59.94, 23.976 fps
Planned for future release: 720p at 50
Native DVCPRO HD
Native HDV supportAll there missing is 720/24P and 1080/30P and of course the mentioned 720/50......
Couldn't tell you price.

Problem for low-low-budgets is to get to a real HD preview. they all need hardware to do so. So nothing comes under € 1900 I think, right?

So what is the fastest configuration of Edius Broadcast for use with P2 and DVCPRO HD? (What hardware do I need from Canopus? Shuld I use a dual core AMD board?...etc)
I tried FCP and it's elegant but I am tired of going out for dinner while my transitions render. I had a DVStorm 5 years ago that was fast as hell and had a great looking codec. I was always amazaed at how far I could go without rendering.
What can I get for , say $10k?

Well, if you just wanna edit on edius you dont need any extra card from canopus.
They actually say that this doesnt help performance, you might need it if you want the signals on a control monitor foe example.

EDIUS doesn't require any additional hardware; I'm running it on my laptop and on an old underpowered desktop and it's working fine.
You should follow their recommended system minimum requirements though; I think for HD they recommend dual 2.8ghz processors or better or a Core Duo or Athlon dual core, etc.

Is Avid 5.5 gonna support any of the extra stuff that Ccanopus does? I'd REALLY like to be able to author back to P2s for transport but I've been using Avid for four years and finally have a legit copy of Xpress Pro HD.
