I am buying a package today in order to run camera tests over the next couple of days for a feature that is shooting in three weeks. I will be shooting at 1080/24p. Basically I need to know what to buy. I will supplement our package later for the shoot, but for now it will only be my DP firing off a few minutes of footage. What's important is that we get an accurate idea of what the HVX can do all the way out to film, so there should ideally be no compression whatsoever following the initial DVCPro shooting compression. Should I bother with P2 cards or just shoot into a firestorm drive? If I do decide to use cards, do I need to purchase a P2 store or will I get the same results just downloading out of the camera's firewire drive (remember I only need around 4 minutes of footage for the test)? What does everyone suggest is the best way to get the maximum quality out of the camera?

It is a digital transfer, so everything will be the same regardless of how you get it off the camera-- P2, Firestore, transfer P2 to hard drive, etc etc.

The firestore has some limitations that have been discussed. For the test, I would get a 4gb card or two--for a few minutes of 1080/24P, one card would do, no P2 Store needed--then offload it to a laptop via USB 2.0 or pop the P2 card into the pc/mci slot.

Cheapest way to go for your initial purposes.
