Hey,
i am currently testing the edius 3 trial.
I m fine with it so fare, but i gotta put some externel audio files to my videofiles.
The problem is, that i can just see the Audio-rubberbands from SOME original mxf clips, other just dont show up, also if there is audio(from the original camera sound)
Does anyone know the problem and can help?
Maybe our marvelous canopus guy!?
Thanx!

Make sure you're importing the clips via P2 Select, and not just loading the individual MXF files. If you load the individual MXF files, audio and video won't be "attached" to each other, since in the filestructure they're stored separately.

hi bhiga,
thats actually what i did, just imported through p2 select, the crazy thing is, that some clips show for some times the audiowave, but then dont do that anymore in the same clip!
I really dont know why that happens!would be great 2 get some help on it!
I also discovered another question related to audio; if i got a stereo audio, i dont know how 2 see the left and the right channel isolated(like it is possible in premiere 4 example!)
Id also like 2 know how i can export 4 channels to a file: i tried with p2 export, but it always exported just 2, also if i had added an external audio before in the timelin!
Any idea?-THANX A LOT!

Weird... A couple more questions:
1) Are you importing (copying) the clips to the local drive, or using them directly from the P2 media?
2) Are any of the clips split across multiple cards?
If you're reading directly from the media, then it might be some kind of read access speed problem.
For your audio question, in EDIUS 3, each audio track (and VA track) is natively stereo. However, if you "split" the audio to separate tracks, then you can get just one channel, duplicated across both L/R on a track. But... sometimes the waveform display is still generated from the stereo original. It depends.
EDIUS 4, so far, seems to generate individual waveforms for clips on the tracks, meaning that if you have Horse-Left and Horse-Right separately, their waveforms would show differently as expected.
Multichannel export depends on what output format you have chosen and the settings in the Export selection window.

thank you bhiga,
to the 1st problem i saw that it happened again( the p2 doesnt come from a card, but from an external maxtor that is definitly fast enough), and its strange because some if the clips get waveformes rendered, others not.
I couldnt check if its maybe split clips(reunited in the timeline), but this could be the reason for some, but i dont think for all the clips.
Anyway i will let you know!
For the seperated audio in edius 4: it sounds like canopus does a real good job with the new version, as i have read that edius 4 wount be available until july id be curious to know from you if had your hands on it and what will be new(despite the information we get on the canopus page!)
Id be interested if there will be edius for and edius 4 broadcast, and if the varable framerates (also the "new" ones starting from 2 frames that discovered barry and others) will work fine in PAL country!
Thank you very much bhiga, i really appreciate your support, i am coming from premiere and avid, but i think the performance and support of edius will probably make me move to the canopus product!!
p.s. can you get some information if there will be a kind of "package" in europe with the nx card and edius 4 broadcast??_thanx again!

Hi there,
Hmm... I'm not sure what's going on with the waveforms... I'd try a few clips from the local drive and see if it happens there too.
There's a dedicated EDIUS 4 section in the Canopus forums that discusses what's coming in EDIUS 4 in more detail but I'll answer some of your questions here for the benefit of the others folks here too.
There will be EDIUS Pro v4 and EDIUS Broadcast v4, similar to how there is currently EDIUS Pro and EDIUS Broadcast v3.
However, EDIUS Pro v4 will include Speed Encoder for HDV and the Windows Media import features. Thus, EDIUS Broadcast v4's major differentiation will be the Canopus HD codec (for DVCPRO HD support), and the XDCAM, P2 and VariCam support. There may be additional formats supported in the future.
Last we heard, PAL HVX rates will be supported in EDIUS Broadcast 4, but as things are still being developed, I cannot make a guarantee at this time.
Not sure if there will be an NX/EDIUS Broadcast package in Europe (no plans for the US), but there is an upgrade path from EDIUS Pro to EDIUS Broadcast. I would check with the UK Canopus office. Also, sometimes dealers offer bundles, so that may be another possibility.
I like visiting here, you guys ask very practical questions - I can tell you're actually using things and not just talking/complaining about them. :)

Hey Brandon!
Thanks for your help, i really like your attitude!(yes we got practical questions, id love 2 ask and DO more but, unfortunatly i am limited to dvcpro 50 until now here in pal land..!)
It would be great if you could try to keep us updated with some news about edius 4 broadcast, specially with pal news(i know, actually thats not your job, but i know you have to have some good contacts to get also those informations!), cause i know that there are a couple of people thinking about to get edius to avoid going to mac and to have the flavness workflow, but as i told you, it makes no sense to pay a 1000 bucks(actually we have to pay this in EURO , which is even more dollars than 1000!) and not haviving the possibility to edit hd in pal!
So please if you got any contact like that force them to implement all the hvx pal framerate options in edius 4!
Thanks anyway!
EDIT: i already adviced some pal people to take edius as a perfect solution for the hvx 720 editing, realizing that i have been to fast and that it isnt sure yet if we will have that in edius 4.
I hope we wount be disappointed in the near fututre..and i hope i didnt get a wrong advise...maybe some of us will have 2 move 2 mac...i personally hope not..!

Well, we've been told that it's (PAL HVX support) planned for EDIUS 4. Whether or not it will be in the initial release, I don't know. I'm sure they're doing their best to try and get it in there (Europe/Australia are large markets for us), so we'll see!
