View Full Version : Disk Write Error on Preview Render

I'm getting intermittant Disk Write Errors when preview rendering.

I'm working in Premiere Pro 2.0, using the demo of Aspect HD.

My scratch disks are all set to "same as project", and the scratch disk settings window acknowledges that I have more than 200Gb free in that path.

No other program has thrown errors of any kind, so I'm fairly confident that it's not a drive failure issue (I had a drive slowly die recently and windows kept popping up with "Windows delayed write failed" error balloons).

Any ideas? I'm going to try to play with the folder permissions, though I've never made any manual changes, and I've only created and edited files using this system and this login.

Is this a known issue with Aspect HD maybe?

Update: Whenever the problem happens, it's because of a single problem frame. All other video will render except one frame (not the same frame in all cases, but it's always only one). Haven't found anything special about the frames though.

Does the render only fail when you attempt to render the AspectHD clips? Also, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the demo? As of right now, I couldn't tell you what the problem seems like...odd situation your in.

Haven't tried the uninstall-reinstall. I'm not capturing any HDV footage, I'm using numbered stills sequences on a HD timeline.

The audio for the project is all music, and the footage is shot 5fps on digital SLR, so it's not such a problem for me to slice out a particular frame once in a while. But I can see it being a problem for other projects.

I'll let you guys know if I find anything else out. Other than this bug, AspectHD seems like a great HDV solution.

I'm getting this problem without the AspectHD on SD footage, plenty of room on my HDs, tried changing the location but still getting the same problem

Yeah I never found a clean solution, it keeps happening intermittently. I've found that it's always a single problem frame, and always at the beginning or end of a clip. Extend or cut the clip by one frame, render, and then switch it back.

I found my problem
for some reason the Compresor setting in Project Settings->Video Rendering was on divx or 3ivx (changed it so fast I don't even remember which...)
as soon as I changed it to a DV codec everything was back to normal

overnighttolondon,

a couple of questions. how are you numbering the stills, photoshop, AE or other?
What resolution are you making them?

Even though the stills are not HDV, if you are using AspectHD then they should be scales to 1440x1080 with a 1.33 pixel ratio, not 1920x1080. I'm not sure this is what Cineform would recomend but when I tried panning and scanning images at 1920x1080 I often got the same error message that your getting.

If you use AE to create clips of stills AspectHD has a preset setup.

Also, if your considering re-installing the AspectHD trial version be sure and contact Cineform support and they will send you instructions on how to accomplish this. It's a bit more involved than you think and if you don't re-install correctly you could make your problem worse.

I'm actually using 720p so 1280x720 with PAR1.0. The images are slightly higher res to give me a bit of panning room, but I'm not scaling them with Premiere.

Yeah I decided not to do the uninstall-reinstall, cause I had a tight delivery date and didn't want to mess things up.

Stills came off a digital SLR so they were already serial numbered, but I renamed and re-serialed using Adobe Bridge.

Effects shots were processed using After Effects and then exported as a PNG sequence 1280x720 1.0PAR

EShy is right! This is usually caused by having incorrect render settings. In your Video Rendering settings, make sure that you have the following:

File Format: CineForm HD
Compressor: CineForm HD Export

If that's not the case, I would suggest that you create a new project based on an Aspect HD preset (1280 x 720). Then import your current project into it. This should allow you to render previews correctly.

Also, I'm not sure which version of the Aspect HD trial you are using, but we've recently released version 4.1.2. It address as few render/export issues as well as offering support for the HVX-200. You can download it from the CineForm website: http://www.cineform.com/products/DownloadAHDTrialStart.htm.
