Hey, what's up guys,

I'm getting ready to upgrade my 2 year old pc, i was thinking about getting the new intel imac and run windows on it, i'll be using fcp, shake and photoshop on osx, but i'll need windows for some applications that i'm already used to.

so the question is, since i trying to move to mac for my video production work, do you think the intel imac will be able to handle heavy multi-task work? or i should just get a powerpc g5 mac.... (keep in mind, i still use some apps in windows)

Check out macWorld.com; they just reviewed windows running on intel macs. I skimmed it and the gist of it was 'works great', but there may be details that apply to you.

As far as an iMac for all thos big-time software packages; there are a lot of expandability limitations with iMacs and Minis; shouldn't be long before we see Intel desktops (check the apple rumor sites, they're often good indicators). I don't think you can do dual monitors with these macs (could be wrong), and FCP and Shake really need a lot of screen real estate (heck, just about anything does these days).

I'd recommend Ponying up the monkeys and shelling out for and intel Mac Pro if your serious about video production and want to go Mac. Theirs no expansion with the imacs so you can't plug in a decklink card for example or upgrade the graphics card. I know one person who works on an Imac and from talking with them they feel it just doesn't have the sheer grunt to help them turn projects around quickly enough

I'm pretty sure you can use a second monitor on an imac, you cannnot on a mini.

Get the biggest, baddast Intel Mac you can afford. Towers out power portables.
