Is there a way to combine footage recorded in both 24p and 24pn in the same timeline without rendering?

don't think so.

Nope. Different frame rates, therefore rendering. If the 24p runs at 59.94 or 29.97. If you reverse telecine the footage, then you should be able too.

that's what I thought, thanks for the help!

This may be more hassle than it's worth and it may not even work, but you can try.
You could capture now in FCP the pn footage. I believe that the 24pn footage is converted to 24p through the firewire.
Rendering might be faster though.

True, I'm just gonna deal with the red line of death (yay for extra coffee breaks!) Thanks for the follow up.

If you bring in 24p footage from P2 (or Firestore) and remove duplicate frames, then you have 23.98 footage that you can put on the same timeline as 24pNative material.
