Guys shot on 35mm film, kept everything to 3 takes. Doug Liman made one of the best decisions in indie history by deciding to D.P. the flick, knowing that if they got a real D.P., he would take too much time to light and limit the most important part of the production, the performances, which were, of course, iconic.
Low production value. But great movie. And look at what Liman (sp?) has become. Go, Bourne and Mr. & Mrs. Smith were all good movies. Who would've thought?

well, some ppl thought it was good ;)
I think the point is more that that he's even being asked to direct such films. Whether he should accept is another topic

doug liman had directed a super low-budge feature before swingers. which is why he got the job. i think favreau wanted to direct himself but was talked out of it. strange how he just signed on to direct Iron Man (I don't know what this means about John Carter of Mars. I suspect he's unofficially booted after Zathura, a movie they can say all they want wasn't marketed well. The movie was just vanilla. That's the reason it tanked fellas).
I don't quite like the path he is taking. He seems to have let Elf go to his head, when, while it wasn't badly directed, was all Will Ferrel. And c'mon, even if he did have something to do with it. It was "Elf". Seeing him act like Jean Luc Goddard auteur extrodinnaire on The Apprentice really depressed me. I mean who didn't like rooting for Mikey?
And yes, M and Ms Smith was a GOOD MOVIE! I hate Angelina Jolie. I dislike Brad Pitt. I usually hate those kinds of movies. I hated the trailer. I fully went in expecting to hate that movie and, low and behold, actually had a good time. Liman is when of the few directors I now officially give a free pass to cause if he can make that movie work, he must be doing something right. Whatever he makes next, even if it's Joe Talks To The Trash Can, I'll see.

My mom says I can no longer talk to you guys. ;)
I will check out that Joe and the Trash Can movie. Sounds better than Mr. And Mrs. Smith. :) Ok, I"m just messing with you. I do appreciate that somebody could appreciate it. I also like to follow some directors careers as well.
I am with you about the Apprentice thing...it was very creepy.
Good night.

Joe Talks To The Trash Can is gonna be goooooooood. i think it will star Cory Haim and Whoopi Goldberg (playing the voice of the trash can of course). You see the trash can used to be a trash can in the richest house in the neighborhood. But now he's in one of the poorest. So he teams with the garbage disposal to find a way back into the rich house. Little does he know that the garbage disposal has his own agenda. Fourteen years ago the previous owners accidentally dropped their wedding ring inside and so he's actually worth $27,000......
If anyone wants to finish this up, go ahead.
