I have a new Apple MacBook Pro and had planned to convert my old G4 into a shooting tool. However my plan has a major flaw — my glaring oversight: the old G4 has 512MB ram and an 800MHz processor (running FCP 5.0.2.)
I'm humbly posting to ask the following question: is there any way to safely get the footage I've shot from P2 to G4 until FCP 5.1 arrives for my new laptop? I am certainly willing to forego viewing of footage for now, but I need to know, at least, that footage is safe and sound. I'm hesitant to upgrade FCP for fear that my G4 RAM and processor speed will choke on application launch and/or import. Can I simply copy P2 footage from card slot to hard drive and wait for FCP 5.1?
If anyone is willing to give me some dummy-proof steps for doing this it would be greatly appreciated? I'm on location in Central Asia, so the dummy-proof part is essential.
