I've been wondering since I got my camera, and have been trying to get my head around understanding all the setting and options and their placement in the menu structure. What does SW mean? As in SW Mode and Auto SW mode. Thanks for any insight. This is a very deep and troubling issue for my brain structure.

Well, for the DVX 100:

...this menu controls what the physical switches on the camera do. SW is short for "switch."

You can assign different values to the switches.
