Okay guys ... don't gang up on me too quickly ... I did do some research, but didn't find the answer to this question:
I know that you can't record HD/DVCPRO to miniDV since miniDV clocks in at only 25Mbps versus the 50 or 100 Mbps required for HD/Pro ... but can I get HVX's higher frame rates (for slow motion purposes) recorded to miniDV or do I still need to shoot in HD and use the still-too-expensive P2 or Firestore?
Spanks bruvas!

No, I don't own the camera myself but according to what I've read on here. You can't get variable frame rates in SD. You could however shoot 720P and then transfer from P2 to MiniDV for a downconvert and that would allow Slow/Fast motion in SD.

Variable frame rates are only recorded in HD 720p to the cards. However, you can then dub the variable-frame-rate footage over to DV tape in-camera. So if you're doing a mainly-DV project but you want to incorporate some VFR stuff in it, you'd rent (or buy) a 4GB card and use that for your VFR stuff.
And the card just dropped another 15% last Monday, so they will continue to decrease in price all the time.

Ahh.. that's wicked ... P2 to DV...rock~! Thanks man.
Oh, and I'd like to strike my last comment about the "still-to-expensive" and replace it with ... "still-too-small-capacity".
Firestore 100 is looking promising .. but still .. and external capturing device ... meh.

The Dub mode works great for "dubbing" 720p to DV25.
Does anyone know of a way to convert the widescreen 16x9 of 720p to 4x3 so it will match existing footage shot in 4x3?

That would have to be done in post; there is no aspect-ratio-correction system in the HVX itself.
