Two questions...

Do you absolutely have to have a RAID set up to edit the HVX's 720/1080 footage or can you do it with say, one or two 500GB SATA drives?

Has anyone tried matching 1080 and 720 footage for a film out? Say I am shooting a full feature in 1080 and then want to throw some over-cranked shots in there at 720. Will it work or will the change be too noticeable on the big screen?

SATA should be fine. You can also raid the two SATAs together and get faster through-put. Go to the AJA.com website, go to KONA support, software downloads and download the AJA Kona system test. This will allow you to speed test your drives. You need to get at least 40MG per second out of them to have plenty of head room. I bet your SATAs get at least 60 or more and if you raid 0 them togehther you'll probably get 100 or more. I am able to capture and edit with fast Firewire 800 dfrives in the field though I use SCSSI and SATA raids at home. RE: the format changes....we've tested both and the difference is not great if you're editing in 24fps with the Cinegamma settings.
