How are they going to make it to the NAB when they can't even return emails?
I didn't see them anywhere and they aren't in the directory.

I just spoke with the owner of Redrock and when they said they were going to be attending NAB, they meant in 2009. If they remember.

I'll have more details later but I did stop by and see Brian from redrock.
They are in the JVC booth with a VERY impressive setup. They have the JVC 24p HDV camera setup with the M2 a Mattebox and alot lot more. I'll be able to spend some time there today.

Hey Guys,
Please come see us in the JVC booth. We're also in many workshops on HD etc. I believe the guys in the 'color space' section of the Panasonic booth has a PL M2 as well!
We're also displaying the new follow focus. Please stop by!

Brian,
Does this mean that the PL mount version is available now? Might you PM me with the information on this. I only need the adapter - no rods or case or other extras.

And James just said on the Redrock Forum, the Follow Focus will be shipping in two weeks!
Let's see how this develops, but great news indeed!

Yes, we finally received the final lens gears and drive gears from our manufacturing facility. We have been in the JVC booth (and informally in other booths and demos) demoing the M2, microFollowFocus, and microPowerPod (the microMatteBox didn't make the timeframe for NAB).
Also, big news that Redrock received the Mario Award for 2006 NAB. This award highlights technical achievements in the industry, and only ten are given out for the entire show. They have not posted the 2006 awards on their website, but here's a reference:
http://www.tvtechnology.com/features/news/star-awards-2005.shtml
We are still here at NAB, but when we get back, we will post some of the pictures and images, including the final microFollowFocus.

I had a chance to try out the new follow focus. It's very smooth, has a good solid feel to it. The design of the lens gears is ingenious. Three sizes of flexible gears will be available which will fit on practically any lens.

the basic prototype unit has photos on the redrock website under products. Once we get back from NAB we'll post some photos of the final lens gearing. We received them literally Tuesday mid-day so we've only been showing them for a few days.
Thanks

will the micro focus be useable with the DVX's focus ring? or is it made for use with the 35mm adapter exlusively? And is it made entirely of aluminum, except for the marking ring?

Hey, I got to get my little mitts on the redrock stuff. Very cool, crazy cool. The gears are big wide ones with no slop, tight tight tight. A great looking product ( and great t-shirt) Thanks guys
BTW the new Jvc can invert the image in the camera.

really? That's pretty sweet! I would like to feel one of the follow focus units. If they stay true to their words of well under 500 dollars, it will be a pretty sweet deal.

I also check it out very sweet looking handle great. Redrock said 650.00 would be the final cost when I asked them...

$650 for the follow focus? Are you sure? They've been saying all along (and recently in the last day or so on the RedRock forums) that the price will be well under $500.

Y'know, other than it being upside down, the M2 acquitted itself *very well* as compared to the $11,000 mini35... Brian brought it by the booth and showed it off and it looked pretty darn good! :)
I played with the M2 at the JVC booth. It delivers a great image. No questions. But it is still too heavy and bulky for my style of shooting. In my opinion, they should not have never put in on the JVC 100 it made the rig 10 miles long.
One thing is forsure though, the new units are pretty killer for the price and the image they kick out.
Also, the FF is awesome. Really great design. Very cool gear system...and dare I say it...way better that the look of dan's.

Well, when Redrock and JVC got the top nod from Showreel and JVC invited us into their booth, it was hard to say no :)
Seriously, there were some informal HVX and Sony Z1 + M2 demos going on the floor that were sized according to the camera.

Yeah, it's 495...

Just to be clear the $650 is for our microFollowFocus *Bundle*, not the standalone microFollowFocus.
The Bundle comes with marking disk, drive gear, and three lens gears (existing M2 customers get an extra lens gear at no cost). We decided to come out with the Bundle first since this configuration was the most requested option.

bvalente, no one has mentioned the new hd achromats and the now two different bundles, m2 sd, and m2 hd. can you tell us more???
bvalente
05-01-2006, 01:58 PM
Sure -
There is additional detail posted in the Redrock forums as well.
The HD achromat is a 72mm diameter achromat optimized for HD (compared to the regular 55mm Redrock achromat). It provides a larger sweetspot that is good for HD cameras, especially the Sony Z1 and FX1 cameras (we were speaking with Sony reps at the show and learned more about their larger lens sweetspot on those cameras)
So as a result, we now have SD and HD versions of each of our bundles, depending on which type of camera you want to use. We also have an upgrade to the HD version from SD, so you can start with SD now and move to HD later by just upgrading the achromat. HD also works with SD cameras.
We have tested with the Z1 FX1 and HD100 all with improved results. We have not yet gotten results with the HVX.

Does the HD improve the image quality of SD cameras?

any prove this new "hd achromat" is better than the standard 55mm on the M2? what's the sole purpose of the achromat (?) to magnify the inner frame of the m2, for back focusing purposes.

I have still been waiting to hear about the HD achromat and the HVX - many people have asked questions, but there haven't been any answers. There haven't been any posts specifically in regards to the HVX's 82mm thread and the 72mm achromat. I am assuming this is because the old achromat which comes with the m2 has edge softness with the HVX, and in that case renders itself unuseable; thus, no one wishes to comment in regards to the new achromat. In that case I may have to cancel that order order a different package without the old achromat. Any thoughts?
thanks

Eventually we will have bundles -
At the moment we have the M2 bundles (including rod support, etc.)
the microFollowFocus will go on general sale June 1st.
the microMatteBox is slated for late summer release.
Once we get everything out there, I'm sure we'll come up with additional bundles
Thanks

Hey Barry,
Good to hear that Red Rock had a successful NAB. Living and working in Europe means that I didn't get over to NAB to see all your kit working. A while back I emailled you guys with some questions and all I got back was an automated reply. So, here goes:
Hello there,
I've been reading about your wonderful products for some time now on all the Internet boards. Larry McKee - also from Texas - has turned me on to Red Rock Micro in a big way.
I am considering buying a Panasonic HVX-200 camcorder and a Red Rock Micro M2 Indie lens system and Red Rock Micro follow focus system as accessories.
My questions are:
Do you get 2 sets of rods with the two Red Rock Micro systems (M2 Indie and follow focus)?
Will you be making a matte box and French flag for the M2 system? If not, who would make one to fit?
You don't show the follow focus system with an HVX-200 on your website - will the follow focus system fit and work with an HVX/200?
What are your shipping charges here to the UK? Do you take PAY PAL?
Sorry to overload you with questions.
Best regards.
Charlie Mac

Hi Charlie
Hm- mistaken for barry?!
You can drop us a line directly at sales@redrockmicro.com
To answer your questions:
1. You use one set of rods that come with the M2 bundle for all your accessories including the microFollowFocus. The M2 bundle comes with rods, the microFF does not (though you can purchase our rods separately or use your own)
2. Yes, we announced the microMatteBox for release late Summer
3. Yes our microFF works with the HVX with our adapter - for a lens gear for the HVX lens itself, it is about to be released.
4. yes we take paypal (and also regular credit card) and we do ship to the UK. the specific pricing depends on which shipping option you choose, but all prices are available under the Purchase menu from our home page.
Cheers
Brian
