Sorry to be asking so many questions on this board lately, but I.m just starting my research and have millions of them - the most current one is this - If I am planning to do a film out to 35, but want to CC in post, how badly is this going to affect the compression? I mean if I use something like Magic Bullet Editors, is this going to make the film [say i shoot in 720/24p] too "artifacty" for film blowup? Or will the CC mess up the transfer in a way I haven.t thought about? Has anyone done a CC transfer to 35, is it better to do a tape to tape transfer in the lab or do it in FCP [or equivalent] and have the lab transfer that?
Thanks,
Mark.

From what I've been told you shouldn't grade with Magic Bullet and then go to film out, you're going to lose quite a bit of information there. You really need to be grading in a high end environment like Lustre or the Davinci2k.
We tested Magic Bullet on something that we did, forgot about the original footage. On going back to the original footage to put it through the Davinci we were amazed at how soft and degraded Magic Bullet made the image.

just edit in native dvcrpo-hd.
when your ready to CC/Grade, just output to a uncompressed sequence.
It's not hard.

To add a reply to this after not visiting it for a while, I just read on CML that a filmout with Magic Bullet looked amazing. What kind of compression does it actually put on the image...? I don.t have it and can.t find anything on their website...anybody who owns it care to share? If I shoot 720/24pN or 1080/24pA - can i apply magic bullet and not recompress or...what? I.m just not sure how it works really.
Thanks,
Mark.
