It looks great. It has a Firewire 800 and 3 USB ports so that is an improvement from the G4.

The only thing I heard about FCP is from JVC, from Press releases and the DP of 24 that say Final Cut Pro will handle the 720/24P HDC codec Nativly very soon.

This is what is even better and will soon be a common complaint from 15" MacBook Pro owners:

17" MacBook Pro 2.16ghz Core Duo w/ 1GB RAM, 100GB/7200rpm HD (Optional from the 120GB/5400 wihtout an extra charge), 8x DL Superdrive, 3 USB 2 ports, 1 Firewire 800 port, and 1 Firewire 400 port sells for $2599

15" MacBook Pro 2.16ghz Core Duo (Built-To-Order) w/ 1GB RAM, 100GB/7200rpm (BTO cost of $90), the same ole' 4x DL Superdrive, 2 USB 2 ports, and 1 Firewire 400 port for $2659!

No joke! The 15" costs more more than the 17" when you build-to-order it to match the 17-inch's specs, and the 17" STILL has: a largeer screen, and additional USB 2 port, and a Firewire 800 port.

I think this partially should be expected. The chips are coming to Apple at a discounted rate they (apparently) didn't have before with the PowerPC chipsets. In any case, dropping the 15-inch's cost more than what they did would've been the right thing to do. When you factor in the educational discount, or those who work for companies that get a special rate from Apple, the 15" BTO is still too close to the 17" in cost.

Sorry. I was using my EDU discount in the pricing. Thanks for pointing that out. This just proves my point even more.

The 17" is $2799 and the 15" is $2899 with the same configs, minus the 8X DL Superdrive and FW800. So it's not $60 more. It's $100 more.

yep, checked it out, the 17" with FW800 and 8x DL superdrive is CHEAPER than the 15" without those features

Express-card to pc-card adapters are on the way and the codecs can't take to long either now.
I hope....

So difference it's only a codec issue? It's not pin stuff...? Can I put P2 card into an Express card hole?

As far as the card is concerned an adaptor is on the way. Barry mentioned it a few times allready, and it will work just fine.

With the codec I meant 720/25 and variable framerates. No good in buying an HVX and not being able to play those in FCP...

OliverM, still Apple doesn't have resolved this, today at Nab no announcements?

Nope, but since a whole bunch of us mailed the request to them, they should be working on it.
Maybe at their worldwide developers conference with FCP6?
I dunno, but I can wait a little. My DVX serves me just fine for now...
