So, this may be a dumb one, but I installed the P2 software(on my laptiop running windows), and it doesn't seem to be working right. Then I see in the instructions that you need XP Pro SP2 or greater, and I only have the basic home edition. I guess this is it? You need XP Pro to run this? Also, once it's installed, what application runs the P2 clips? Quicktime? Real Player? ??

Not dumb.. But you do need to upgrade to SP2. When you install the P2 drivers you will then be able to insert your P2 card into your PCMCIA SLOT, and WINDOWS will automatically recognize it has a HARD DRIVE.. You can also access the P2 card from the camera via FireWire/1394 with your camera in PC mode (goto VCR mode, then hold the same button down till 1394 flashes)
You will then be able to access the files and copy them to your computer/external HD.. You will not be able to view the files in their RAW format from the P2 card.. You will need to import them into a P2 compatible editing program.
Let me know if that helps.. or if you have anymore questions..

Justin, Thanks. I'll upgrade immediately.
So, I actually need editing software just to view the clips? I thought I saw on one of the threads there was a way to view them outside of doing that. Hell, I haven't even gotten any editing software yet. I've been plannng to go the Apple/Final Cut route, but I haven't gotten any of that together yet. I'm a PC guy switiching over just for the editing. Oh boy, tell me this ain't true.

You don't need XP Pro -- I'm running one system with XP Home and another with XP Media Center, both SP2, and both are working fine with the P2 cards.

Well, I wish I'd known that earlier. I tried installing XP Pro and during the install it crashed my system and now I don't have a laptop at all, and have to take it a computer tech to do whatever...
