Will there be auto focus ability* or not?

* It would be nice for run & gun doc work, for instance...

Very unlikely, there is no easy way to interface with AF 35mm still lenses and no cinema lens has ever been AF. I just don't think this would be a valuable place for Red to spend R&D $.

It would mean controling the focus gear and iris through a servo, and internaly calculating the depth and appropriate. Extremely unlikely - Auto Focus only came around with specialy designed lenses - lenses that, while still capeable of working on RED - are not the only available.

And I really don't want to see Lens Options: [brand name] AF Only :)

And I really don't want to see Lens Options: [brand name] AF Only :)Indeed but to run & gun (like the XL-H1 or XDCAM-HD PDW-F3xx series) it would be useful. Specially to doc work. It's just an idea from who deals everyday with this kind of need. If you wish cinema-vérité style, of course. Maybe very european but the need remains.

i think the Red is gonna be kinda small to handle as a Doc camera....

My suspicions lead me ot believe it is literally going to be the size of an apple with a 35mm Film lens mount on it, and lots of cables.......
