Anyone with a 15 or 17 inch PowerBook using a FW800 external HD have an estimated time on transfer of a 8gig P2? (copy of the card exact to HD not a FCP import)
Thanks

direct copy of files from full 8gig P2 card to 500 Gig RAID 0 Firewire 800 drive, using the PC slot of a 1.67 Ghz Powerbook for the P2 card: 4 min. 22 sec.
importing same media into FCP: 5 min. 27 sec.
For some reason, both processes slowed dramatically toward the end of the transfer/import.
My next test is to change the RAID to level 1 (mirrored) and see how much the transfer rates slow.

I have the opportunity to get a brand new 1.67 15" PowerBook G4 for 1600.... Sounds like this is a great solution to offload using the on board slot or capturing live to a HDD using FW800...
I cant believe how fast that is to offload an 8GB card using the slot.. Im convinced!@

It works great, I grabbed a 17 before they ae off the shelves...... love the workflow.
I have two 1TB Gtech Raids hooked up. I import P2 card exact to one than later back up importing into FCP on the other.
I keep a P2 store around just in case, but find the system working great.
