Mr. Jannard,

Can't tell you how much easier the M-Frames I'm wearing in my avatar made my life while deployed, and most of the guys in my unit swear by your boots as well.

Looking forward to your camera creation.

I'm curious as to whether there might be tactical considerations for RED? As far as construction or variations in build? The original camera shell graphic looks tactical itself. There's so much military imagery that is reduced to poor quality video, or missed alltogether because of equipment that is a nogo for rough environments. For instance, soon after I filmed this Christmas Parade (http://www.warriorswithwrenches.com/christmas1.wmv) through the middle of a post in Afghanistan, I hit my lens hit on the side of a bunker and tore it out of the socket.

1. If such images could be effectively filmed in High Def, and
2. Be able to survive harsh environment while using interchangable lenses

It would be awesome. I'm not sure what a tactical camera would look like (some kind of hard housing/brace or rails to protect the lens or connection point), but I figure if anyone is capable of bridging quality gear to tactical use, it's you. I'm currently shooting on F900's for an upcoming National Guard theater campaign and we were told how the Marines had been issued Panavised F900's early in Iraq, I can't imagine trying not to break the lens off one of those while running! I know the obvious answer is to stick with cameras using built in lenses (we're trying out the HVX's for that reason).

Just a thought anyway ;)

Can't wait to see the finished product!

Good point Mr.Glory. I know Oakley has relationships with the military, so Im sure if need be, they will make sure RED will meet and exceed the standards of you guys, perhaps even right out of the gate. I sure dont expect to see a "normal" looking camera body Monday... so anything is possible.

Being tapeless, that already eliminates a large problem with battlefield situations.

Scratch that, NOW I know what a tactical camera looks like. BRAVO! The "Cage" idea is brilliant. Best wishes on production! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Based on the design of the cage, would something like this extension idea be a feasible option, to protect the lens mount area in the field environment?

yes very feasible.. its a little tricky to operate, but giving the amount of mounts on the cage you could pretty much do it yourself if there was no red solution.

How bout something like this?.... The cage system is going to make accessories and rugged-ifying a breeze. Can't wait to get a hold of one of these at the end of the year.

Nice mock-up, Curt! Now, all it would need is a shoulder pad under the RED body (making the camera shoulder mounted), a viewfinder close to the front, some kind of hand grip on one side, and a follow focus on the other side.
