HI, I'm shooting my first HVX project soon, and was going to record in the 24P Native mode, A) for 24p and B) to get 20 minutes out of a P2 card, but the manual mentions sound NOT being recorded, except when it is recorded and played back at the same speed. So if I shoot something 24p and playback 24p I have my sound right? I just want to make sure, as there is a lot riding on this-

Thanks,

Correct. As long as you're shooting and playing back at the same speed, you have sound. If you are shooting at say 60ps and playing back at 24fps, you won't have sound, however. You should be fine. I use 24pn all the time, and like it quite a bit.

If you're shooting in "native" mode at the same frame rate (either default, or 24p for 720/24pN or 30p for 720/30pN) then your audio will be fine. Change the frame rate and no audio will be recorded.

Pity the HVX doesn't do audio recording only as a feature, for those who want voice over, and don't need the picture.

Maybe in the next version?

But you can still switch to DV codec to save space if you only the audio.

True.

I assume you're talking about dv tape though, which I am hoping to avoid using.

You can record DV on the P2 card instead of tape too, and at 25 megabits it'll give you a longer running time. If all you need is the audio, it'll be recording two (or four, if you want) channels of 16-bit uncompressed audio even when using the DV mode.

I had no idea you can record DV to p2!

Guess I should read the manual again! If you gave exams at the end of the HVX bootcamp, I would have flunked.

Thanks for the info.

I didn't know you could still record all four channels of audio when in DV mode. I thought it was limited to 2 channels, even when recording to P2. That is very good to know...
