Ring Iris/Ring Focus

I know Barry has lamented how useless the "feature" is of switching the focus ring between Focus and Iris, but I've found a potential use for it. So now my question is: why doesn't it work?? I've set it to my user button, and when I press it, the LCD indicates "Ring Iris", but the ring continues to do focus. What am I missing?

You have to set to Auto Focus

Saru is correct, and that's why I think the feature is of such limited value. It only works if the camera's in autofocus mode.
