G'day all, this is my first posting. I am a camera operator living in Australia. I would like to ask the board a question.

If my primary, and most likely only use for purchasing a HVX200, will be for shooting personal drama (both short and long) projects, is there any advantage in me buying the pal version over the ntsc version, or visa-versa?

Remember too that in the HD world there isn't PAL and NTSC. There's 50 and 60i etc but that's it. That said, if I was getting one (I'm in New Zealand) I'd get the PAL version. Everything is much simpler. Other wise you'd need to convert the power. We are lucky in that our TV's and stuff can play NTSC natively but it's still a pain to switch it. And not only that, PAL is so much more simpler. No nasty dropframe/non drop frame issues. A little speed change for conversion to 24p is all that would be needed and I haven't heard of anyone having a problem doing that.

Hi, welcome to DVXuser!

It is advisable, unless you have a very specific need for a feature ofered in only one camera, to have a camera that matches the standards of teh region you are in. So for Aussi that woudl be a PAL camera - as all the other gear there is PAL, NTSC would cause incompatiilety problems.
