RED alert!!
Would you like to read the currently proposed tech specs for the new RED camera system - personally explained by Jim Jannard? Would you like to see images of the RED camera prototype? I thought so!
On April 3, 2006 I had an exclusive in-person Q & A interview with Jim. He revealed the technology and concepts of the new RED camera system, why he wanted to create RED, and what to expect from RED as they roll out this remarkable new camera system.
Be among the first to view my interview with Jim, read the currently proposed tech specs, and see what the RED camera prototype will look like!
When? Monday, April 24, 2006, at 9:00am Pacific Standard Time.
Where? The Studio Daily web site: http://www.studiodaily.com/main/
In addition to the Studio Daily web site, Access Intel publishes the following magazines: Film & Video, Studio Monthly, HD Studio, and DI Studio. The web sites for each of these magazines are available by links from the Studio Daily web site.
I’m not an employee of RED or Access Intel, but rather an independent producer, director, DP, and writer.
Enjoy the interview with Jim – I sure did!

I've noticed (haven't we all) a sudden surge in PR the last few days from the RED boys. Which makes me wonder, have they been in touch with Jarred? Has he got something he's about to launch on us on Monday? He's giving the impression of knowing more than he's letting on lately...
(disclaimer: I could be completely wrong).

HD4NDs Exclusive: Ted Schilowitz, now "Leader of the Rebellion" for Red Cameras, talks about Red & NAB

Is this the rumour about the beta testing cameras going to Barry and Jarred this summer?
(Well if it isn't, then c'mon, let's get the new rumour mill started!)

Thanks for the kind words Emanuel! DVX User has always been one of my favorite tech boards, and I'm real happy to step up for Jared to help moderate the RED forum. We're all in the same worldwide, convergent, Web-connected media family.
It's morning for you in Europe, but it's now 11:00pm in California, and I've been working since 5:00am this morning. I'm so excited about the new RED camera system, that it's hard to sleep at night!
I'm going to try...catch ya later.

I heard a rumour that Barry stopped writing the HVX book and started writing the RED book instead :cheesy:

Barry's DVX book sold like hotcakes, and his HVX book/DVD should do the same. I'll buy one. He's the real deal: techie, director, shooter, writer, and a helluva nice guy! He works 26 hour days, but I'm sure he has a part of his brain that has focused in (no pun intended) on RED!

Hmmm, 3.5" lcd... there's no such thing on the market today that even has 720p resolution with that size!
And with 2.39 AR you can count separate vertical pixels on that thing.
I'm not sure how benefical over 1080p resolutions will be if we can't focus accurately.
Maybe Jim has a custom made ultra-high-resolution lcd in his backpocket in addition to custom made cmos.
I'd strongly recommend at least 16:9 AR to lcd.
Btw, is red.com still down?

Wow. I thought this place would be exploding over the pricepoint announced for RED. In this thread only 2 comments so far. Amazing. I, for one, was quite surprised at the pricing. I thought it would be much higher. This certainly bodes well for all of us, as other companies will be forced to compete with this.

Yes, the price is a positive surprise!
Makes me work hard for the next two years to pay for the hvx and save for Red...

04-24-2006, 11:38 PM
So when is she available?
What mounts are you offering with it?
I thought he said 3.5 is too small, so maybe it will be bigger
anyway, add to this price the cost of lens, storage device, and an external HD screen and it's still very cheap for such a camera.
And hopefully by next year editing HD will be cheaper

I hope there is a proper viewfinder on it as well as the flipout LCD. LCD's are all well and good until the sun shines!
