I was just wandering when i used the trial version for the first time.
I used a 18 month old Centrino laptop with 1 gig ram.
But the playback wasnt smooth at all.
Now i am wondering if this is due to my edius settings, my Laptop performance or whatever..!?
Id like to know what u guys experienced in Playbck performance and which hardware u used.
Thnaks for your help guys!:)

I've seen Edius perform really well on a HP laptop with an AMD. It's propably the hard disk "messed up". You can run a defragmentation or use an external HDD to see if you get any performance. Otherwise it isn't compatible with the laptop.

Thanks for zour answer Steve,
actually i am using a new Maxtor one touch 3 as an external Drive for the footage, but i still got the problem:even if i watch the footage in a small window(the same in record and in play mode-window), it is really not running realtime at all.
I still hope that there is some setting i messed up, cause i really wanna stay on pc and was thinking about to get edius broadcast.
However i will buy a new one for this, but we are out right now for a documentary in italy and i would love to do some small editing and watch the footage(dvcpro50) running smooth.
But
2dropping" some of the frames makes it impossible to edit and judge the footage in a good way.
I was also wandering that the p2 viewer doesnt perform better, also fare from realtime playback.
I dont wanna sound negative, but id love to hear from some of your experiences and i would like to know which hardware you use!
Thanks guys!

Ok Ok...i knew something has to be wrong..and this time it was really stupid, i cant blame anyone for it but me..!
I thought i did the right project settings in the beginning, but actually it jumped back from 16:9 to 4:3, so that was the reason why i couldnt paly the footage back smoothly!
I got an amd centrino with 512(!)mb ram, and it plays back dvcpro 50(I am

I got an amd centrino with 512(!)mb ram, and it plays back dvcpro 50(I am in pal land) very smooth, also in big screen.
Actually i feel that the handling of edius is not bad at all.
I think the P2 implemenation works gorgeous, to me they are definitly on the right road.(even if i put some effects on the clips it plays back in realtime without rendering, there is no canopus hardwaresupport in my laptop!)
I didnt have the time to test with 720p, cause we are right in the middle of a documentary in dvcpro 50.
Id love to har some other experiences, from ntsc and pal countries, let us know what you think about edius!
(i couldnt live with fcp converting the files, i will finally have 1 TB of data at least, i really dont wanna see this doubled through fcp..also if i heard it works very smooth with the hvx..!)

I've been following EDIUS since version 1.5 coupled with a DVStorm2 Pro card. It's very fast and remarkable software. It has crashed about 4 times and it will resume from an autosave file, with your last edit (step) saved. But it missing a couple of good features.

Hehehe, sometimes the "bin acceptance" of EDIUS (ability to use clips of non-project rates/sizes/etc), makes you forget to check your settings...
