Hello, this is my maiden post/thread. This is a great forum with some really neat people! I have learned a lot from you guys :dankk2:
Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard or know(Jim) if Red is going to offer an ipo soon?
I am thinking I would buy a few shares and flip it to help me pay for my red monster. Maybe I will even have enough to get me a quad cpu mac to help break that old 4k barrier.
I know I am not the only one thinking about this.

first of all welcome Jonathan, and thanks for your kind words.
About the IPO.. I dont know if Red will be a seperate structure from Oakley.. if its not, I would invest in OO stock.

I think I remember reading something about Oakley making an affordable lens for Red. If this is true then I am betting that Red is operating under Oakley.
I can't wait to find out. Either way, it sounds like a great opportunity. I once did this with Red Hat linux and made a small fortune. Now if I could do the same with Red.

What is Oakley's ticker BTW? ;)

Oakley is OO on the NYSE. RED is NOT a part of Oakley. There will be affordable lenses (by current 35mm PL mount standards) offered for the RED camera as time goes on. They are in development now. Takes some time. Announcements will happen as the year unfolds. One lens will be announced at NAB with a roadmap of lenses discussed.

Can't wait. I'll be making a beeline for Red at NAB :)

Lol. I'm sending a friend, who can make it to NAB, clear instructions. I made sure to give him booth numbers, and am going to try to make a little map so that he can't possibly fail me. His orders read as:
1) Get into convention Center
2) Run to Red booth.
3) Call me on Cell phone.
:)
Note: I'm actually counting up my points for a New Zealand citizenship. We may have NAB, but I'm very interested in moving to New Zealand. "It's always greener..." as they say.

So should i start buying OO stock now?

OO is oakley, and it looks like Red is going to operate as a seperate company.
However, The dip in OO stock currently suggests it is a good time to buy OO.. not because of RED, but because this summer is gonna be a good summer for Oakley.

Hey Jim, or Jarred where and when will be the anouncement be held. I would like to go to be one of the first to see it.

yeah I wouldnt mind seeing it before anyone else too.
Watch, all of us forum guys will be the only ones there and we can have one on one conversations with Jim. Then Jim will give us the privilege of being the first to invest in the company since we all encouraged the innovation.
I know, this is just a personal fantasy of mine :love4:

RED's business model makes it inconvenient for investors, it might not be such a great investment.
"What you don't plan on your customers buying a new camera... for how long?"
There are only so many people who want to buy a camera. ;)

Wait, you mean that ticker is counting down TO something?!? [trembles]
I'm having flashbacks from LOST. Are we sure we want to let that thing run down?

Any word on what the Red Ticker is? I think that with selling so many so soon is a pretty good chance of this product being in high demand.
