after looking at this adapter for the XL1/2 that lets it use canon's EF photographic lenses.. (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home;jsessionid=G2Mm7vlJLn!179186575?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=146134&is=REG&addedTroughType=search)

.. i was wondering. now, i've researched many of the adapters gonig around, but i still don't understand why one can't be created just like this? can someone explain what would be so hard about just creating a tiny little adapter like this and having it work totally fine? it seems very uncomplicated, whereas many of the DIY adapters look..fairly complex.

Sorry to be harsh here, but if you had researched this you would realize that this device only meets to goal of attaching a 35mm lens to a video camera, and does not preserve the same field of view.

er, what? that's exactly right.. i'm looking to attach a 35mm lens to the panasonic. canon ef lenses. are you saying it won't transfer the light correctly to the camera like it should normally onto an SLR? it won't preserve the same field of view? same FOV as what? if i attach my 60mm f/2.8 lens onto it, what are you saying would happen unfavorably?

is there a reason why no one can answer this question?

Here's the problem with the Canon adapter for the XL cameras, the adapter is designed for these cameras because they have removable lenses. This wouldn't work on the DVX since it does not have a removable lens. Therefore, the DVX needs devices like the G35, Mini35, Micro35, etc. because they have a ground glass the DVX lens can focus on. This is a fairly simple explanation and I'm sure the people here that design them can explain further, but it comes down to the fact that the DVX does not have a removable lens. If it did, I'm sure things would be different.

If you want to maintain the same field of view on the DVX OR the XL2 you have to use an adapter with some sort of ground glass (or wax, or magic smoke, etc). All this thing does is allow you to attach a 35mm lens to your Xl2. You really get none of the desirable benefits of doing this, namely 35mm DOF. I believe the only useful scenario for this on the XL2 might be one where you had a very long 35mm lens you wanted to use for wildlife video or similar.

This has been covered numerous times in various DIY threads for the 35mm adapters.

oh, i was under the impression it would be possible to remove the lens entirely (though completely killing the warranty) and probably permanently
