yes i know this is a dvx only forum and i usually only post my dvx footage but i thought people might like to compare dvx to film.
i didn't shoot this. it was brought to me to edit. it was shot on super 16 and cc'd during telecine and transferred to digibeta and then to dv. i reversed telecine and edited at 24fps. it's persian so you prob won't understand the lyrics unless you are persian as well. i have no idea what the guy is saying except the line repeated in thew chorus translates to "come back". he just handed me the tapes, gave me the basic storyline and said go for it.
in comparison to dvx footage, the DOF on super 16 seems to be slightly better, but for me unless i could shoot 35mm, i'm sold on the dvx. still costs a buttload to shoot/process 16mm. to me, not worth it.
Edit: Updated version of the video and new link. http://www.fisherfilmworks.com/Kamran%20Delan%20-%20Bargard.html

The one thing that makes 16mm or 35mm worth it is the dynamic range... plus the big matte box on the camera makes everybody excited and bring their a-game performances.
Matteboxes and dynamic range - size does matter. Sorry, Japan.

Well, this music video was a total waist of 16mm film and money if you ask me.
At leas if it was shot on the DVX100 they could have saved a boat load. Would have still had the same look. It wasn't lit very well either.
Reminds me of the $3000 dollar Asain budget music videos I used to work on in southern California.

Wy should you care what it was shot on ? It wasn't your money.
This video is better than most of the crap submitted here. At least it has a concept and is interesting.
And I disagree completely on the lighting spin. It has been lit pretty damn well. Hot chicks, cool song. It definately feels Euro in style but that can be a nice change from the copycat hypereal feel of todays MNTV bullshit.

I was simply giving my professional and personal opinion. Don't get your XLRs in a bunch. I have worked on, and lit MANY music videos as well as other programs on very LARGE scale as well as Small scale productions.
It was just my opinion.

i didn't shoot it so i wouldn't be put out by the lighting opinion but i thought it was lit well for the look they were going for...

Looks good.
Super16 and DVX my not stand out that much on the internet but compare a timed DigiBeta super16mm telecine to a DVX video on a real production monitor and you will see the difference.
Actually even on this web version there is a good amount of detail. Its more apparent in the wide shots.
How was editing this if you didn't understand the lyrcis?

Thats funny, just did a persian music video on super 16 a little while ago, it's posted somewhere in the forum also.
Editing it was the toughest part with the language barrier and all, so I feel you.
Anyhow, this is just another proof that film still looks better, saying that one could have gotten the same look out of the dvx is absolutely ludicrous...... of course when you play stuff on the internet at 320x240 you can make 4k hd look like crap too.

Uncrowned - Believe In Goodbye
Dug that Music even if the "camera shake" was a bit overused
It would also be cooler if you had a chance to shoot a few takes with floods on so every scene change on downbeat had lights on
Hide and Seek - Music by Imogen Heap
Great can't crit well shot well done

lighting was good.. so i dont know what that one guy was talkn about.
the close up shots of the hot chicks looked really good.. (fasion photography good)
the only diff in this 16mm vs the dvx is the dynamic color range. with an adapter you can get the same dof.. time to upgrade to the andromeda mod so we can get the same dynamic range.. long story short.. could have been done for a much lower budget with dvx or better yet hvx (with andromeda)
