Dear Mr. Jannard,
A quick suggestion. If it has already been covered before, my apologies.
I read that you plan to support PL lenses, by having a PL mount on the camera itself. This is great. My advice - please don't forget BNCR lenses!
First, there are tons of BNCR lenses out there! I myself own a complete BNCR prime set and two zooms with the same mount, and I know at least 2 great DPs who have (and constantly use) lenses in BNCR mount. Also, Visual Products (to name the biggest suplier in the US of used motion picture equipment) has a HUGE inventory of BNCR lenses, in fact, the majority of the lenses they sell come in BNCR mounts not in PL. All in one, there is a an amazing pool of BNCR mounted lenses out there and it would be a pity not to be able to use them with RED.
Secondly, the BNCR mount has the best seating, and is by far the strongest mount of all. Important for telephoto lenses, heavy ones, and even some zoon lenses (although the latter almost always need extra support).
And third, you can use a mount adapter from almost any other mount to PL (c-mount, arri, bayonet) but you CANNOT adapt a BNCR mount lens to fit in a PL mount on the camera (you can do it vice-versa). That is the other reason a BNCR mount on the camera would be more than welcomed for a lot of us.
I think that would be a minor thing to add as an option, compared to the mamouth operation you have now in place. It would be great if you could think about it, but in any case, good luck with your project and I hope everything will work out in the end. For you and for us.
All the best!
Mike
