OK, no laughing. I have a slug of High-8 tapes that I need to get transferred to the hard drive, edited and burned to DVD. Trouble is, my old camcorder, that created these beauties, is toast.

Does anyone recommend a Hi-8 deck that will play nicely with the iEEE 1394, or does one exist? Or, what about a decent camcorder that will serve as my deck and gimme the most bang for the quality on those tapes?

Keep in mind, once I transfer, I'm through with the machine!

C'mon, gang, help a brother out here.

Don't you have a neighbor or relative that has a Hi-8 camcorder? I guess you realize that unless you have a digital capture board for analog tape that you'll need to use a digital camera as a bypass to digitize that footage.

There's allways ebay. Should be able to pick one up fairly cheap. (don't know about the iEEE 1394 though. You might have to run rca to another camera or vcr and convert it that way.

Sony handycam. I use one quite a bit to do DVD's for people.

Yes, it makes me feel dirty.

I think if you can get a Digital8 camcorder, you will be able to read the tape.
