Now that you can run windows on Macbook Pro, is it possible to run Edius Pro 3 on it? If so, what sort of performance can I expect?

there is no reason that you couldn't.

Im just waiting for either apple or panasonic to offer some sort of PCMCIA support for the new books.

Yes, that would be a nice feature for us PAL users who can't edit DVCPRO HD 25p on Mac right now.

As far as performance, it's obviously speculative, but because bootcamp runs natively, you should theoretically expect it to perform every bit as fast as it would on any other Intel Core Duo PC.

On the MacBook they're not using any sort of translation or emulation software, they're letting you boot the system up in native mode in WinXP, so it should be full-bore.

If anyone here has tried this (running windows on Intel Mac), please let us know.

I also found this. Don't know how soon it'll be out in the market, but looks promising.

Well, hopefully. It says "expresscard to pcmcia"; does that mean it adapts an expresscard to work in a pcmcia slot? If so, it's not what we want. But if it adapts a PCMCIA card to work in an expresscard slot, well... now you're talkin'! Hopefully it will support the 32-bit CardBus PCMCIA version, because if so, helloooooo Macbook Pro!

If you look on this page: http://www.duel-systems.com/products/adapters.aspx

Look for the following statement at the bottom... "An adapter to connect a current PCMCIA card to the new ExpressCard interface." Not sure how long they plan on it taking, how much it will cost, or if it's 32 bit, but we can hope!!!

Well, I just sent 'em an e-mail asking, so... we'll see what they say!

I've had Win XP on my MacBook Pro for a while now and I tried installing the Edius trial over the weekend. It started up fine - unfortunately I was incapable of getting very far with the app as it all seems very foreign to what I am used to!

What about other apps. How did they work?

I have also tried Avid Xpress Pro HD, but unfortunatly due to the fact PC Avids only support NVidia graphics cards and the MacBooks come with ATI cards, video playback in the app is not possible (the overlay does not work with ATI cards).

Perhaps you can be more specific with regard to "What about other apps?"

What I meant was other apps such as Internet Explorers, Media Players etc. I presume they work fine...

Intersting that Avid XP HD doesn't work... Do you know if we can change the graphic cards? And if we can, does that work with both the OS?

Don't forget this is just an Intel based laptop and as such very similar to all the other new PC Core Duo based laptops - Win XP and its associated apps run completely normally.

Certain high end apps which require very specific hardware, like Express Pro with its Nvidia only spec will have compatibility issues. Thats no different to any other Win XP machine.

There is no way you can change this laptops graphics card - I'm not sure you can ever do that on laptops and there is no way in the world I would even attempt it.

Xpress Pro HD on Mac OS X will be out fairly soon anyway.
