I just upgraded from 6.5 standard to 7.0 standard. Every time I try to save the project, or import anything, the app freezes. If I wait long enough, I get a message 'After Effects has crashed'.
I upped the virtual memory, no help. 6.5 never did this on the same machine. I'm getting in touch with Adobe, though I saw on their user forums a lot of people with the same complaint, and no answers.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this? No other app was running. 1.5 gig of ram, 3.0 ghz Pentium 4, 80 gig of hard drive space. Not enough to save a project with nothing in it?
Any ol' thoughts would be appreciated. gracias.

I guess this isn't happening to a lot of people, but I got this from Adobe tech support. I moved OpenGL3D.aex to the desktop, and problem solved.
:dankk2: dstevens. we will memorize it. so if I upgrade, I will know how to solve problems like this.

It's in.....
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects 7.0\Support Files\Plug-ins\Standard\Extensions\OpenGL3D.AEX
I'm using Windows xp home. Other operating systems might have it in a different place.
This means of course, you can't use any OpenGL features. If you want OpenGL, you can also try updating the driver of your video card.
If a new driver doesn't help, you may have to get a new video card -
http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/opengl.html has more info compatible cards.

What video card are you using? NVIDIA is what they cert... I would upgrade your driver and give that a shot. I do not have any probs on XP Pro and the Pro version of AE 7. I have a 6600 GT/128 megs. AMD64 3800 2 gigs of ram...
I hope you can get the openGL working!
Good luck,

I forget the card off the top of my head (I'm not at that computer right now). I tried updating the driver, but it didn't help.
Anyway, I know it's not on their list of certified cards, so I'll probably just invest in a new card eventually.

but if you do this, will you be able to use the 3D layers?

I'm not sure to be honest - I'm going to try soon and see what happens. But I've ordered a new video card anyway, might as well take advantage of the software features.
