Does anyone know if I can purchase the DVX Book by itself without the DVD ?

Maria:
I would send Barry Green a direct PM and ask as I believe they come as a set. But I would tell you the DVD is very valuable especially the review of the DVX scene file settings. The DVD provides on screen visuals of what happens when you change gamma pre-sets, matrix, master ped, detail, etc. This section is worth a lot in understanding their use for tweaking your video output.
I personally refer to this quite often as I experiment with different scene set-ups.

Is it possible to buy it retail in New York, or only online. I checked B&H and they don't sell it seperately.
Barry_Green

Yes, Abel Cine Tech in NYC stocks it, and Hello World also bought a lot of copies so they should have it as well.

Thanks, appreciate it.
Claude
I bought my DVX end of Feb from B&H but didn't get any of the
rebate info included, so haven't sent in for it yet.
Is the book/DVD still included in the rebate package?
Do you have to submit a different form from the $400 rebate
paperwork to get the book?
Barry_Green

There should have been a letter in the box that tells you how to get it... it doesn't come packaged in the box anymore.

How can we get a copy quicker than 7 days? We have a shoot week after next with the HVX and would love to use the DVD as we do tests next week.
Thanks!

All orders are sent within 24 hours. Add $10 (to paypal @ fiftv dot com) and I'll upgrade shipping to express mail, which should get it to you within two days.

Barry, just ordered my 100BE from B&H but the PAL version does not include the rebate, Magic Bullet or your book/DVD.
Is the book also aimed at PAL-users?

I'm a PAL DVX100B user who got Barry's Guide, and since I'm novice to the field, I treasure every bit of it. My DVD player is a multizone-multisystem which allows me to watch NTSC ready disks.
DVX100BE-urope version is slightly different from a DVX100BA-merica and I find it correctly stressed out in a guide. In my opinion, it's an american product with enough global sensitivity to be found acceptable elsewhere.
I just tried on my Macintosh to reproduce the DVD in order to make my comment more complete and it worked.
There should have been a letter in the box that tells you how to get it... it doesn't come packaged in the box anymore.
there was no information in the box regarding the book.
There was also no paperwork for the rebate.
I will call B &H for the rebate paperwork. Should I contact
Panasonic about the book paperwork?
I'm itching to get my hands on that book and DVD.
I'm using the camera, but I'd like to really learn how to make
the most of what the camera has to offer.

The PAL cameras don't offer the bundling deal.
If you got an official authorized US unit from B&H, it should have included the paper that tells you how to get the book/DVD from Panasonic for free. If you bought a demo unit or a gray-market unit (B&H occasionally sells those but usually identifies them as such) then no such paperwork would be included. You may have to send a PM to Jan Crittenden to verify your serial number to make sure you have a valid US-authorized unit.

I was very specific when I purchased the camera with B&H, asking that
the camera would not be PAL and that it would have a valid US warranty.
Also that the rebate would apply.
I paid full price. If I wanted grey market, I would have purchased at a less
reputable seller. In fact, B&H would not match Beach or Willoughby's
prices because they said they were not reputable.
Is Jan Crittenden's email address available on this site?

Hey everybody, I bought a DVX100A last year and I have the book but not the DVD. So two questions:
- Is there any way I can buy just the DVD, to go with my book? Or,
- Would anyone like to EITHER buy my book OR sell me their DVD? My book is for the DVX100 and 100A, but not updated for 100B.
Thanks

HVX book coming soon!
NEW HERE etc. ...
I bought a the dvx100be (PAL) from B&H because I'm a film student from Israel.
I bought it all "KOSHER" and legit.
I understood that the book can still help me so I would love getting it.
Does the rebate still applicable at this time or should I have gotten anything with the package I bought (something I had to send or register).
I could realy use the book but rather get what I deserve before spending my 70$ (Which I will still spend if there's no other choice - I have 98$ left in my wallet after buying the camera and before going back home).
Thanks men,
I'll be here for a while :).

The free offer is sponsored by Panasonic USA, who gives free copies to USA residents who buy a USA model; you're not a USA resident and you got a PAL model so unfortunately you wouldn't qualify for a free copy from Panasonic USA.

Thanks, it was strait to the point with no possible mistakes - just makes me wanna get your book even more...
And I'm guessing that as previously mentioned the book will still be a great instructional experience despite my obvious disadvantages (though I am a part time resident)?!

Hello,
If I order this say this Wednesday. When will I receive it? I am in Canada? I want to get this before Xmas.
Chris

Orders usually go out within 24 hours. The problem with Canada is that the US Postal Service's deliveries to Canada seem exceptionally slow; I can send one to Germany in four days, but to Canada it takes usually a minimum of 12, and usually 14 days. So if you order it I'll get it out immediately, but we'll be at the mercy of the US and Canadian postal services as to how soon it actually arrives; expect at least two weeks.

The book & DVD is excellent! A must have for a DVX user!
I'm wondering if Barry would consider putting out a couple of DVD's of the DVX bootcamp, like he did for the HVX bootcamp DVD's.
Just a suggestion! If so put me down for an order!

Although I have not received the $500.00 rebate, nor the training DVD from Panasonic yet, I did go and buy the books and DVD, which was one of the best things that I have done!
Not having a camera with this type of power left me in the dark, but Berry;s book and DVD has really help, I can say that I have had noting but fun with it all.

I am not sure how long it takes to get all that, but I can say that it is too long to wait.
Got my book and DVD from amazon.com in a couple of days and it was the best thing I did, besides getting the 100B.
I have also checked out Amazon.com for more books and got them also.

Yep, I think I'll order it today. What do you think of Magic Bullet?
greenhorn
07-20-2007, 10:37 PM
I just got my book, dvd and magic bullet program, so I haven't had a chance to use it yet.
Bought my book and dvd in Jan. so I could start learning the camera to it's full power, which is a lot.
On the dvd you will learn how to set the camers , scene files, to come very close to magic bullet.
Before I got the book, I was going to spend a lot of money for filters, but that would have been money out the door!
Like I said, THIS CAMERA HAS A LOT OF POWER, all you have to do is learn and experiment with it.
HAVE A GREAT DAY AND HAVE FUN LEARNING.

Just wanted to say thanks to Barry for creating such an informative video. I chose not to go to film school and sites like DVXuser and books like Barry's are what's making it possible for me to learn. Really enjoyed the sections on panning and what not, the whole seven second rule was new to me....Im going to have to get some more books for other tidbits like that one.
Anyone whose new to film making and new to the DVX, this book is a must it will really help. Saves a lot of time instead of searching around the net hoping for answers.
Thanks for making such an informative DVD and book Mr. Green : )

1) Yes I send to Australia, but you may also be able to find it at some dealers in Australia already -- including John Barry, Lemac, and VideoGuys.
2) I tried to cover NTSC and PAL equally.

There were two versions. The original, then an updated version that added the DVX100B. The early version hasn't been in print for years, the only version offered is the one that includes the DVX100, DVX100A, and DVX100B (both PAL and NTSC).
