hi guys, ok il make this quick and tell you all there is to know. I have windows XP Home SP2, have downloaded P2 viewer. Have a usb 2.0 slot, have 2 PMCA slots, and the laptop can handle raylight on medium setting. I have created a virtual P2 card on my system.

Ok these are the questions that need urgently reslved before i shoot tonight, as my P2 cards are full of nice stuff i wanna keep.

How do i dump the card without loosing information?

How do I dump files that have used both P2 cards during recording, so in the viewer give me a exclimation sign?

Also noticed that when playing back 25pn 720 footage in viewer the sound speeds up to double the speed, when u look at the information for a clip, it does not say that its 25PN but just 25p, not sure how to fix this or if it effects the inputed footage to NLE?

Any other vital information I need to know about offloading P2 data would help me allot. I have a shoot in a nice ice cream place with a band and everything, and im going to need to first off ssave whats on the P2 cards now. And secondly take my laptop and offload the stuff there.

Thinking i shuld just get a P2 store, but would realy like to get a fig rig system instead. Not sure how good the P2 store is and weather its available here.

Ok guys, you have Ten Hours as of now. Please help me.

Cheers:love4:

Just plug the card in, and go to Windows Explorer. It'll show up as an external hard disk. Copy the contents of that "hard disk" (the CONTENTS folder and the LASTCLIP.TXT file) into a directory on your hard disk (such as "P2 CARDS/CARD 1/" and "P2 CARDS/CARD 2/"

You can view that you successfully copied them by running the P2 Viewer and go to Tools->Setting Virtual P2 Cards; point it at the directory you copied your cards to. The windows on the left will bring up the clips and let you play them back from your hard disk.

Nothing different, do it the same way.

Thanks Barry, that really helped me too.

Though don't forget to go to EDIT >> PRIMARY BIN >> ALL P2 CARDS

(or the thumbnails won't show, was stuck on that for a moment or two)

Thank you Barry. I ran in the house to grab my laptop but checked the post for 2 seconds. I bought a figrig and used it today shooting with the HVX. wow realy great results. Thx for ur reply. I downloaded the equivalent of 13 4gig P2 cards. I had complete confidence creating a new folder for each P2 offload. So now i have 13 folders all named correctly. Now how can i edit all this, wow, aaargh. Till then it will go on a Hard drive.

I have a question. I noticed with the footage i shot. All in 25PN due to the fact i could shoot twice as much without dumping. The only thing is, i believe its a bit more wishy washy when moving than the 25P setting.

What is the best setting for quality, 25P or 25PN?

What is the best for a film like look, 25p or 25pn?

What are the differences, dissadvantages etc of both, like a comparason. This will help me allot for shooting tomorrow, as i will have more freedom before dumping.

and hey guys, i dont work for manfroto, but damn, that fig rig is a nice piece of equipment, shot without it yestarday and i considered the footage to be worthless due to angles, non originality and shakyness. With the fig rig i do crazy camera moves in an instant, smooth tilts that look natural, go all arround the performers, right into there instraments, looking right up the shaft of the guitar before following the fingers all the way up, was crazy, wanna show u some footage.

Anyhoo, hope you can help me with my 25p or Pn questions.

thx :)

oh and one more question, how come when im in P2 viewer, the footage in 25PN plays fine, however the sound plays at like twice the speed, its crazy chipmonk effect, if i use raylingt i think it becomes ok maybe, why is this and how can i hear the sound normaly

Slap it on the nose with a newspaper.

yes, there is definite room for panasonic or even a 3rd party to develop a more romantic P2 media handler.

Would be great if you could just put a card in, the app automatically asks if you want to copy to a folder sequentially, then moves it then erases the card when its done.

No difference at all.

Use 25PN when recording to P2 cards. Use 25P when recording through the firewire (to a tape deck, firestore, direct capture to computer, etc).

Thanks for the above. However, on my laptop I'm not able to view my clips once copied from a p2 card. I've played around with all the settings and still nothing.

I can play the clips straight from the card.

I can also copy the card onto my desktop p2 viewer with success.

Any ideas?

Did you copy the "lastclip" file too?

Yes. The last clip is next to the contents folder.

o.k.-i also wanna throw in my p2 problems:i was able to copy files and also works with the "virtual p2 card"(maybe thats what you have to try paul, dont forget to import the whole folder that you created for "conten" AND "Lastfile"!), but it plays really just som frames..even 575p that i recorded!

I am using a good centrino laptop from last year, so i think it should be powerfull enough at least to play dvcpro 50 in fullscreen without ptoblems-shouldnt i?

So any hints why i got no good playback?

solved my problem. When I was trying to create a virtual p2 card I went into the folder rather than just choose the folder itself. Silly mistake but one I found easy to make. Ah well.

My laptop is not able to play 720pn fullscreen. The ram is only 512 so I will upgrade to at least 1 gb. however, for the purpose of checking that clips have copied I'm finding it fine to just view them in the small window.
