Maybe this has been suggested before, but in the battery section maybe there could be a little blurp about how to properly take care of DVX batteries. Maybe things about when to recharge, how to store, etc.

I just purchased a dvxuser battery and I am very impressed with its performance. A week after I received the battery, I took it overseas, to Spain for a project, and it has been amazingly reliable. Thanks!

Just got my batt's and the uber cool t-shirt. Thanks Jarred. I love the disclaimer on the box... "or you will die." I contemplated centering my horrorfest entry around the dvx batteries. A serial killer offs helpless coeds by forcing them to use the DVXuser 5600mah Battery in the ways forewarned on the box.

I still haven't heard from anyone. I went back to my PayPal receipt and found that I did enter a typo on my shipping address. Regardless I would really really appreciate some kind of response or help with tracking it down. Now I'm going to have to see about cancelling the order & getting refund and purchasing somewhere else... bummer.

EDIT: Deb got back to me; she was out of town. My order is shipping today.

VoodooXT,

Glad you got yours and it is working. After having my order in their hands for nearly two weeks they are just sending it now. This is logner than I wanyed to wait but will be glad to receive it when Ido. I will probably order 3 more of these batteries so I have enough power for the feaure I am shooting next summer.

My advice to independent filmmakers is that they order at least a month in advance or more (especially if from Canada) as sevice is very slow.

See ya!

I live in the small town of Winston-Salem. Apparently I shouldn't have put the hyphen in, because "Winston Salem" worked. I feel sheepish, especially after calling Pay Pal tech support, but geeze...never had any problem with it before.

I'm ready to buy a few of these batteries from Jared, and i've seen nothing but xcellent reviews, but i'm curious about my old battery. i thought Li-Ion batteries weren't supposed to hold a "memeory". isn't that the case?

I'd like to know, if they do, will these batts be subject to that too, and therefore, what is a good conditioner for these batteries?

i hate charging my battery every 5 minutes!!:Drogar-Angry(DBG):

thanks.

Hey Jarred, ordered battery on Tuesday still haven't heard from anyone. You, Deb, zoomforce, wondering whats the status.

On a side note. Because I was desparate for a battery for a shoot on Sunday I stopped by a Fry's and picked up a Energizer ER-C630 its a replacement for the stock panasonic battery CGR-D16, I was wondering if anyone heard any negatives about using this battery. Its just so I have a back up for the shoot it'll probably last the same length as the CGR-D16. For the specs it's a 7.4v and 1700mah so it definitely won't hold a candle to the 5600mAH.

You will probably get 2 hours at most on it if using on the DVX100, half of that for the HVX200.

just to add to that,
lithium ion batteries will last significantly shorter amount of time in cold weather. if it normally lasts you 6 hours, expect it to last under 5 hours in below freezing weather. Its not good for the camera either.

Battery Issues...
99% of the time, everything is smooth. But, of course nothing is perfect.
Between the fact that packages get lost or delayed, or an email gets lost due to computer troubles (like we switched servers, email went haywire),... Not our fault, and we happily try to fix any problems, or even refund,.. Immediate refunds when asked! The nice people get more than an apology from us, free t-shirts, or dvd's, an overnight package at no charge, we try to make you all happy!

Jarred posts, we are not a factory, we have careers... He sells batteries not to make money, but help filmmakers... Anyway, no offense, just get a lot of pretty demanding, irritated emails from people getting discounts and we make no money. Hey, just trying to help out fellow filmmakers.. We do our best, but if people wanna stress on us, go buy it at retail price!

I am posting, because those rude emails stressed me out much, I try very hard to make everyone happy! So, please, email me nice, or not at all.

Sorry to so sound rude, I just shouldn't be stressed for helping my husband help "you"

Thanks!
DeBranne Land

p.s. THANK YOU TO ALL THE APPRECIATIVE EMAILS!!!!!! can't tell you how much I APPRECIATE those emails from you guys!!!!

REALLY.... THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

Just going to jump in to DeBranne's defence here. Two weeks ago I ordered a battery, delivery to Ireland, requested it be sent sooner rather than later, and it arrived just fine 10 days later from LA. I've used it twice since then and it works perfectly, no problems. I think we should be grateful to Jarred and DeBranne for providing a great product at a fantastic price... I don't think they should be treated as some kind of super-slick web outlet who will jettison their product seconds after payment and track it every inch of the way to your doorstep... treat them as pals who are helping you out - be patient - let them know if there's an issue with delivery time - and if you really need the battery yesterday, go buy it at your local store and pay extra.

Thanks guys!

I just placed an order for a DVX user battery in the UK. These batteries look great. 5 hours of battery time? Amazing. I wish I'd stumbled across you guys before. All my DVX user friends in the UK will be hearing about this. Even including shipping costs, this battery is a bargain because here in the UK we pay over twice the price on everything camera related.

So keep up the good work, and thanks again.

They charge fine for me on the Panasonic recharger... no reason why they shouldn't - they're the same shape, dimensions etc as the Panasonic batteries - just 200 mAh more juice. (and a significant wad of dollars less)

I ordered mine on the 17th (a week ago) and haven't seen or heard anything yet. I emailed the contact address (actually emailed twice) to beg...no...plead that it get here by tomorrow as I'm going out of town on a 2 week shoot and desperately need the extra juice. Still no word. Nada. Not even a measly email telling me to bug off. Oh well, I guess I'm going to be stuck plugging in. :( :( :(

I live in Toronto - shooting in Florida in mid Sept...
Would it be cheaper for me to just have them shipped to the hotel in advance of my arrival?

Time is not an isssue really because I have over 2 weeks, so if it isn't much cheaper, I'lll just have them shipped to my house in Toronto.

Yes, this is happening with my 5600 battery too. It hasn't seemed to hamper any of it's functionality though. Simply cosmetic? I must admit that I've used the DVXUser 5600 over my other batteries, in the past year, cause its so darn stylish.

I read the manual yesterday when I had just bought it, and it says that you should never leave the battery in the camera because it will still be on and can over discharge and damage the battery. Do you guys leave the battery in?

This from B&H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=batteryPage.jsp&A=getpage&Q=Product_Resources/Battery_Guidelines.jsp
Pertinent:
Li-Ion (Lithium-Ion) Battery Guidelines:
reference source: IDX
Top off or fully re-charge within 3-4 weeks of use.
Storage:
Short term storage: Store fully charged.
Long term storage: Charge to 20-40% of capacity approximately every three months.
Li-Ion offers a very low self-discharge rate. Ideal for long term storage.
No need to discharge to balance cells, ok to top off at any time.
On Assignment: Do not leave battery in a hot vehicle or in direct sunlight.

Interesting.
The DVX owners manual states on page 21:
"Discharge the battery before storing it. When storing it for an extended period of time, charge it at least once a year, use up its charge in the camera-recorder, and then store it again."
I usually run them all the way down like the owners manual says unless I have another event within a month.
So which is it; 20-40% or Zero for long term storage? I'm guessing long term would be anything over a month.

Jason Ramsey
05-06-2008, 08:30 AM
To the warranty question:

As stated on the order page, the batteries all come with a 6 month warranty. 13 months is a decent run if you've given the battery a lot of usage. Or, if you haven't given them much usage during that time. I've got a couple of a different brand and they haven't seen much usage, and are starting to not last as long. My DVXuser batteries are strong as a buck at the moment though.

At any rate, you can email deb at the address I listed above, and explain to her, and see what your options are.

Later,
Jason

The reason you read conflicting information is while the fundamental requirements are very much clear, how to satisfy them, is subject to interpretation by different manufacturers. Let me explain here.
1. Any Li-Ion cell will age while stored, even if not being used. If it is stored in the fully charged state, it ages a little faster, may be 10%/year. If it is stored in the fully discharged state, it ages slower, at approximately 5%/year.
2. If it is overdischarged way below it's normal discharged state due to self discharge or discharge in camera, it is badly damaged.
3. What the manufactureres are trying to tell you is for the long term storage you want to store them in discharged, but not overdischarged state.
As it is difficult to do exactly that without getting a huge headache, the industry practice is to store them at about 40% before shipping, as it seems like a practical compromize between 100% charge (bad) and overdischarge (very very bad).
Hope I did not confuse you even more :-)

gco
05-06-2008, 09:45 AM
Actually that does make sense.
Perhaps it would be better to just leave it at one bar (as indicated on the battery meter) and not worry about it. I think that would put at about 20%. Certainly less effort than running them down all the way and a safer way to avoid overdischarging.

what about that warning in the beginning of the manual about Panasonic not being liable if damage should occur from imitation batteries? Just askin, as I just bought an HVX200 and if something was to go wrong that is something i would not want to pay for. how can i be sure the battery is up to the standards in terms of 'protective devices'.

thanks

adolgin
05-14-2008, 06:55 AM
A battery can not damage the camera electrically, no matter if it is made by Panasonic, or no name bottom feed manufacturer, as it inherently can not develop more than about 8.4V which is within the range of what the camera is designed for.
If it blows up while plugged in in the camera and cases damage due to fire, they tell you they will not cover it, which is fair.
As far as to be sure that the battery is up to the standards of safety, the only solution is to pay Panasonic prices, or buy from established generic vendors. eBay would be my last choice...

They are usually pretty good with shipping them out. I've bought two of these batteries before and received them in 5 days. I just put in an order for 2 more today. Thanks guys!

So these hold up in running time better then anything else? Ordering brand new 100b either wednesday, thursday or friday whenever the bank lets my effin cheque go threw. But yeah back to the batt my gf will buy a 2 pack for me for my birthday lol I am turning 20 but these are worth the money and are reliable?

Darn f150trk21, I bought it a day after you did and I still haven't received mine. Figure it will eventually come.

Yeah I ordered mine about a week ago, but not worrying at all. They are dependable. Probably got caught up with something (aka life) and are a day short or so. Can't wait to get my new juice!

I ordered two batteries two weeks ago, and I still don't have them. For the past two weeks I've only had one battery for my HPX, which is quite limiting. Frustrating.

Yes, quite frustrating indeed. I have emailed/pmed everyone associated with this group (did so a couple of days after I bought the batteries), and still no response. Should have probably read this thread before I bought them and expected them to come on time. Oh well, I guess I only have to deal with this once *knock on wood*.

BTW, did anyone ever receive a tracking number, or even an update on your order from Landmine? Or is it just a waiting game?

I too have tried contacting them and nothing has shown up so far. I hope they can catch up on this soon.

I just noticed that if you actually click on the article link, it lists the batteries as out of stock now. Wish I could have at least got that in an email response or really anyway of contact, via PM or call or whatever. Customer service is key in business and this is a big disappointment for me. PLEASE REFUND ME ASAP.

this whole thing makes me sad... I guess if there aren't any batteries left, please refund mine also. I would rather have the two batteries though.... or at least some communication.

battery woes...i;d tried and tried and tried to contact them for some info so i could buy (out of US) ..pmed..emailed multiple times and got nothing at all. So i was forced to go to speccom (specialized communications) to buy there high capacity 6000mah. U guys can try there...good communication..fast service and they are also one of the site sponsers.
I get that Jarred ect can be busy..but honestly, it was just ridiculous re communication. (for me at least)

02-12-2009, 04:43 AM
yeah, i hear that. there is no communication at all, no response to email, so how are you supposed to get refunded? the only other way is to lodge a complaint with paypal, which is not the way i'd like to do this as it is timely and results in the website getting investigated. not what i want to do to one of my favorite websites...

wow, I just received a shipping notice from paypal. Looks like they probably used USPS Priority Mail, so I will let everyone know in three days if I received the batteries.

I ordered a battery from dvxuser in the first few days of December, I didn't receive it until early January. The box was destroyed, but the battery seemed fine. I charged it, put it into my DVX and it worked fine. A few days later, I go to use it for the 1st time. I needed to go hand held, so I took it off of the tripod, and mounted it down by my hip. As the battery rubbed against my hip, it slightly lifted up off of the connectors on my DVX and it disconnected. I emailed Jared and actually got a response. He told me that the connectors were bad, and I should send it back and they'd replace it. I emailed him back, asking what the address is to send it back. It's now Feb 17, I've emailed him asking the same question multiple times since and I still haven't gotten a response. I'll never get another battery from DVXuser. It looks like I'm not going to get a new battery or a refund, this is the worst online shopping experience of my life. I understand he could be busy, but in 2 months he couldn't take one minute to answer an email? I needed this battery asap, I figured since he's a filmmaker he'd inderstand that. I was apparently wrong, and now I'm out of $80, not to mention the battery power.

I got mine, but am sending them back, as I already have batteries from another company.

it looks like i have a shipping confirmation now and am waiting for the batteries to arrive... hopefully not in a battered box and in shite condition as getting in touch with dvxuser seems to be a nightmare

hey guys i took them offline.. Deb's in the middle of a pretty big project right now so as you can tell the service has gone too shit...

I apologize, Jason just moved to Colorado and soon will take over the battery duties in a month or two when he settles in... nobody should be waiting for batteries still as Deb caught up last week... if you havnt email her at deb@dvxuser.com , and yes, it will probably take a while for her to respond.

For about the same price, I would recommend the Lenmar series batteries (the 6 hour ones) for around $80. I haven't gotten the DVXuser batteries but if they end up unavailable, check those ones out.

Hey, Guys... We've got a new batch of batteries on the way and are about to resume selling these things again.

We'll be selling them via the new landmine store which will roll out at the same time the batteries become available.

Should be within a week or so. Just wanted to let you know.

Also, with the new landmine store, will come a whole new infrastructure and improved customer service, etc... But, battery prices will remain the same :)

You will also have several shipping options to choose from.

later,
Jason
