Here's a question I have not been able to answer. All help appreciated!

Shooting (in HD to P2 cards) in the field. Interview set-ups, B Roll (sometimes without an external monitor), both single and two camera set-ups. Quite often shooting multiple hours per day with each camera. Often not a lot of hardware tied to the camera so we can move about during shooting and get through a lot of set-ups. (No video village...)

Offloading the P2 cards immediately to hard drives.

When we are not the production company - just the acquisition folks - how do we provide the clients with timecode window burns (preferably on DVD's)?

Many of these projects are shot over a period of time so there won't be an NLE (or even post company involved) until after creatives, various departments, and legal have signed off on the footage - which they are used to reviewing on DVD's

We HAVE to provide these TC window burns or else we can't get the client to move from DVCPro50 where we normally do the burns from a 93 deck to a stand alone DVD recorder the day after the shoot.

Hooking up a DVD recorder or other such gear on location is too cumbersome (plus no timecode...?). Using the P2 cards the evening after the shoot won't work because we have to transfer off the P2 cards and use them again during the production day.

Using an NLE is out of the question due to the time an cost of ingesting, aligning on a timeline, rendering the TC window, and then outputing.

This is the age of IT ! (?)

What is needed is a way to take HD MXF files and get them into an SD DVD format so we can make multiple DVD (or VHS...) copies and give to the client ASAP.

In the best case we'd use an stand alone DVD recorder like we do know and no have the lengthy encode and writing process of DVD's in a computer (or laptop).

I can't be the only one that wants to use the HVX-200 for commercial, corporate, or programming projects but has to be able to quickly (and affordably) provide TC window burns...

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Canopus Edius Broadcast takes care of this in all ways. It will output to file, tape or direct to DVD with timecode, your choice of original P2 TC or timeline TC or both stacked so client can call out timeline locations and also see P2 TC that was on that timeline at that location.

The Canopus word keeps coming up on this forum. With the "A" words most prominent for post I don't see how I'd be able to even suggest a post production path with any other name for folks that are used to and have invested in what they have.

However, in my TC window question here, we are the acquisition company only (in these cases). Some of these projects will not hit post for several months after the shoot. On most of these projects the post house has not even been decided upon when the shooting occurs.

If I'm going to be able promote shooting on the HVX-200 (or any P2 camera), I need to provide TV window burns on DVD's ASAP after the shoot. From the files, not the cards (as they have been reused during the shoot day). And, the per hour expense of using an NLE in order to produce TC window burns is not something the clients are likely to accept! (Again, post is sometimes months away and the vendor(s) has/have often not been selected when the shoot happens...)

Is the solution to keep shooting on tape? (For these acquisition only projects...)
