Just got delivery and installed PAL Final Cut Studio universal hoping blindly that it would include 720p 50 - but no luck there.

What an update!
If you are using powerMac in Europe, there's very little use for this update at all...

Dont have a P2 card yet so captured direct into FCP at 1080i 50. Just used the preset setup and it worked like a dream - real fast. Its cool seeing stuff play back effortlessly at full screen 1440x1080 on a Cinema display. However as reported elsewhere it was blocky in shadow areas (no doubt due to the crap interior light I was using to test the capture). Need to get out in the daylight when I get the P2s.

so no 720 25p or 50p on FCP and the Raylight/premiere workflow takes weeks to render if you have a duel processor (which I dont)
I'm sad inside.

Adam, don't be sad.
I haven't received (prob. next week) my cam yet, however I strongly believe that you should relax, the solution is just around the corner only probably not as soon as many of us would like it to be, think of how much things have changed over the years and how fast all of us anticipate new products and services. For those desperately wanting to work with this cam and now have deadlines, all I can say is that I feel for them and wish to gather their strength and patience, I believe things will work out eventually one way or the other.
It's a crazy world were living and we can't wait to get where we want to and this is causing a great deal of frustration. But believe me if there's any camera outthere to enjoysupport from the various NLE's its gonna be the HVX. Remember that when all (Or most of it) the support we wanted is there, like Jan said, all of this will seem just a small timeframe in our otherwise great experience with this product.

All I can say is that hvx was announced at nab2005, so apple has had a full year to make update for also pal-version. This just shows how much they care about pal-areas in the world.
Timeframe for waiting for full workflow could be quite long in the future if this becomes usual thing. I really don't wait so unpatiently new camera models any more. If something is announced in nab2006, maybe it's in stores in Europe by 2007 and maybe the post-production softwares will support it in 2008. No hurry any more...

I am relaxed.
"calmer than you are....calmer than you are"
just sad.
calm and sad.
oh so sad.
although i havent heard for sure FCP doesnt support 720/25P.
It is no upgrade, it is the same thing but now working native on the Intelchipset .
All render things are more up to speed, more channels. I think you need to wait until NAB to here more about the future (PAL) support 720/50P. If they change that you get it for free during a upload.

when is NAB?
people in PAL land are totally screwed from the looks of things...
Bar going to edius (which im not TOO keen on)
premiere with raylight is too slow
and FCP doesnt just doesnt support the HVX200E. unless you shoot in 1080i

There are actually few small fixes also in powerPC code; that's why it is 5.1.
There was a document about new features.
I just hope apple don't start to charge 50€ for every .1 update...

One of the reasons that Apple may have stopped selling Final Cut Pro on it's own might be that they can offer an upgrade to Final Cut Studio every single NAB.
Final Cut Studio gets upgraded with a varying number of new features for each component. Last time DVD Studio Pro wasn't much of an upgrade. You can bet that it will be this year - for all those getting on the HD DVD bandwagon (although I think the majority of consumers won't be interested).
I guess that Apple doesn't have 720p50 support yet for one good reason - they only have one software engineer working on that part of the application, and he or she is busy with all the other codec work that needs to be done. They might not trust that Panasonic will have the PAL camera out when they said they would. What if Canon require special codec support. They could announce it at NAB, show a prototype to Apple behind closed doors... then take almost a year to get it out of the door.
Should Apple spend the money supporting all these competitors to HDV as well as HDV and the IMX wannabes? All the owners of the respective cameras would say yes.
Once PAL camera owners start getting prestigeous work and talk about switching from Mac to PC, then they'll see the incentive in spending the money.
For now I'll be a cameraman who can deliver loads of hard drives with MXF content for someone else to edit on whatever they can get to work.
It's a pity really, because I want to be an editor when I grow up...

true man, everyone has limited resources,
do you take a chance and make something that might not catch on or refine for existing clients..
Its funny though because I know so many PAL users who would switch to Apple knowing it gave full support, really there aren't a lot of options right now.
