Can anyone help me making sense out of the pixelmath?

Does the pixelcount:

dvcpro-hd 1080i60 = 1280x1080 nativ
dvcpro-hd 1080i50 = 1440x1080 nativ

a) count for real better resolution in interlaced and progressiv mode ?

b) would a convertion from 1080/30p give you 720/60p

Thanks for any info and correction.

No, there won't be any more resolved detail. Look at it this way: the JVC uses 1280x720, the Sony uses 1440x1080. Which one has more detail in its picture? The JVC.

These small cameras can only resolve so much detail. I don't expect there to be any difference in recorded detail between the US and European versions.

And no, you can't convert 1080/30p to 720/60p. 60p means 60 motion samples per second; 30p only has 30. You could downconvert 1080/30p to 720/30p if you wanted, but you can't magically invent motion samples that weren't there when the footage was first recorded.

I think there might be a benefit to get 720 chroma samples per line instead of 640.
Hvx should be able to resolve that.
After all 4:2:2 is the slogan they are trying to sell this camera...

You do have a point -- I didn't factor that in.
