Final Cut Pro sees each clip independently of every other clip. So how is everyone dealing with longer takes or clips that span across cards once they ingest into FCP? Do you guys just rename clips like xxx_A, xxx_B etc.. or do you manually combine the clips together, or some other solution so you work with entire clips rather than remembering which clips are sequential.

I'm facing this issue on my Elvis doc right now. I haven't been able to find a work around yet. Anyone else figure this one out yet?

The Apple P2 White Paper says on page 16:

While recording, when one P2 card is filled, the camera jumps to card two and continues recording. Final Cut Pro will not put these two pieces together—you will have to manually reassemble them into a single clip. Timecode will continue from the end of the first card to the beginning of the second card. That is, the second clip will begin with the next timecode frame number that follows the last timecode number on the first card or clip.

So it looks like we are stuck in work around mode. I'm working on the idea of sorting a bin by TC number then selecting the split clips and dragging them to the timeline so make a sequence with the clips reassembled. Not the best solution but perhaps the only one until FCP supports the metadata from P2.

It looks like multiclip might be another workaround worth exploring.

Yeah I was thinking about trying to create a multclip and then try to sync by timecode and see it it butts the two clips together or not.

Another idea is to create a nested sequence.

The easiest surefire way is to probably just delete the clips from the browser. Open clip A in Quicktime pro and join the remaining clips to it. Then re-import back to FCP.
