The DVC 30 looks a lot like the DVX 100 but much cheaper. Why is this?

No 24p. Lack of cine-like colors. Lack of cine-like gamma. Less image control.

It does however have better low light performance. DVX100 is made for narrative film-like features while the DVC is more suited for documentaries.

Are you sure about that? The DVX has a larger CCD, so I would think it would do significantly better in low-light at the same framerate.
