Hi guys, Im sure someones asked this question before, I've had a look but cant seem to find it.

1) do you have to be shooting Native to capture slow-mo? I.e will slowmo NOT work in the firestore (so I need P2 cards basically?)

2) Im assuming if I set up a laptop and stream directly to that I will also not be able to make use of the variable frame rates?

Cheers,
Adam.

As far as I know...

No. You can't do variable frame rates unless you are in Native mode. However, you could do 24, 30, and 60 framerates. Then you could interpret the footage customly in your NLE program. For example, you could shoot 720/60P, then bring it into your editing program, and interpet the footage as 24P. This will then change the framerate to 24Pn60P, which will give you that 2.5x overcrank (slow-mo).

You can pay around with this and interpet a 30P clip as 24P for a very slight slow-mo effect. But thats about it. If you want the full set of variable framerates that the HVX has to offer, you have to do Native mode. If you are simply wanting the 24P or 30P native fully overcranked at 60P, then you can achieve this by simply using "interpret footage" in your NLE program.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Slow Mo *WILL* work with the FireStore.

When you import the files to FCP the duplicate frames will be removed and it will be exactly like a 24pN or 25pN clip.

Or, you can use the frame rate converter to remove the duplicate frames too.

I am VERY sorry. I'd hate to be spreading wrong info around here. I just checked my camera. You can do variable frame rates in normal 720P mode. You don't have to be in Native mode. For some reason I thought you did. I think when I was first tinkering with my camera, I didn't know the menu options very well yet, so I was unable to change framerates while in standard 720P mode. Now that I know the menu system better, I DO see that you can change them whether you are in 720 standard or Native mode. So yes, the Firestore will support Variable framerates and slow-mo.

Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for clearing that up Barry.
