Well I assume that few people have a HD burner. So how are you outputting to DVD?
What is your workflow and final resolution before burning?

Is anyone doing this? Does anyone know the highest res that can be used on a sd dvd player? Also Im in Japan (ntsc land) and I notice that most 4:3 shows on hd cable are in 525i (on plasma screen) and 16:9 are 1125 .... I thought ntsc was 480 SD and 1080HD respectively. (I have never seen a show at 720 - well not yet. My display on channel change gives this info each time.

Ok so Ill add this in hope of a response... when you send a HD project to a network, what format are you sending it in?

The highest res for a normal dvd player should be 720x576 which is PAL SD.
To get more on a DVD you'd have to use something like Sorenson Squeeze to encode a WMV HD stream. Burn that to a DVD and use a DVD player that's compatible (there's a few about).
If you have an Xbox 360 networked to a Media Centre PC then you can stream WMV HD files across.

Been producing some DVD's from my FCP 720p timeline.
The results are much better than just shooting SD.
And yes you can encode a WMV HD file and play that
through a computer to show on an HDTV. The results are also steller.

SO how are you outputting your timeline? What resolution? Downsizing for SD? Sorry just wanting to know what people are doing.

I've actually been wondering the same thing. Thanks for posting this!
So what are you using exactly in your workflow? Assuming you're doing a dvd for an HDTV

Here is a question.
How long will it take to render out a 1 hour DVCPRO HD 720 on a Power Mac to Mpeg2?

We are talking regular SD DVD for the moment.
Export using compressor.
Pick a DVD flavor you like 16:9, and an audio file to
match and save it.
Then use DVD SP for authoring.
I have edited for years with other software and DVD SP is from the old Spruce software I used to use.
For a one-hour time line on a G5?? Do a 5 min test and interpolate from that.
