Forgive my ignorance, but I'm rather new to HD Post workflow and I'm trying to understand why the Apple Whitepaper says to import the P2 footage at the DVCPROHD format which in easy setup sets the resolution at 1280 by 1080. Should I change this to 1920 by 1080 to preserve the actual resolution if I'm shooting at the 1080/60i setting?

If I do import it with this resolution, is there something that I need to set in the render process to ensure that it actually outputs at the full 1920 x 1080 resolution?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Rob

No. The image is recorded anamorphic (1280x1080). Leave your sequence settings to that. When you export (or even view the files) you'll notice quicktime will do the scaling for you to 1920x1080. If you export to a file for use on the web, for instance, make sure you set up a 16:9 preset (such as 640x360) and your encoder will know what to do with it. If you are going out to tape, the combination of FCP, your HD deck, and/or your capture card will convert it to the proper aspect ratio. Leave all settings as they are if you are working in a DVCPRO HD 1080i timeline.
