I understand the mac book Pro does not yet run FCP, so how would be the best way to offload footage in the field without FC ? Do i mount the camera through firewire? Then what ? copy the contents into a folder ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that'd work. Make a new folder for each card, and do not rename the CONTENTS folder from the card; also copy over the lastclip.txt file too.

Thanks, I will give that a test run, see how effective that method is, or if its a pain in the neck. Problem is, I will be using it for a wedding shoot, so its a bit of run and gun. I have enough p2 cards for 60 minutes of 24pn recording (6 cards), so i should be able to manage it.

So, now when the card switches from slot 1 to slot 2, I can then swap out slot 1 card, and go back and forth that way?

Apple should be releasing the Universal Binaries by now of the Apple Final Cut Pro Studio, so if you've already got your MacBook Pro, you might wanna jump on that.

Here's a link to the Apple website with all the Universal switching information for Final Cut Pro Studio (costs aren't too bad!): http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/

Enjoy your blazing speed-demon of a machine. ;)

Hello Barry & everyone,

Michael Schoenfeld here,

I shot the Photographs for the HVX brochure for Panasonic - got my HVX a week ago -love the thing.

Quick question - I a "paranoid" advertising Photographer who has built a business upon having a "back-up" solution for most critical workflow devices.

Can anyone direct me to a firewire or USB 2.0 PCMCIA reader that will:

1- Work on a G4 Powerbook?

2- Correctly read the P2 cards I have?

Yes, I have the cardbus slot - but only 1 - you know "paranoid"

I want a Back-up reader in case the cardbus slot goes South - I know Panny makes a 5 slot reader - I just want "1 back-up"

Thanks a million for all the helpful advice for this lurker.

All the best,

Michael Schoenfeld

Unfortunately there are no 32bit card readers yet, and you need 32bits to read P2s. I would recomend the Panasonic reader but a second powerbook would be cheaper.
