When/why would I need to format a P2 card? I just don't get it. I've never done it, and my computer recognizes the footage just fine.

You can do it on the computer, and the camera. it erases the data so you can use the card again fresh.... Do it in the computer to save time so you dont have to reformatt in the camera.
